Job Description

Position Summary
The IU Indianapolis University Library seeks an experienced public services librarian to join the administrative team as the Associate Dean for Public Services . IU Indianapolis University Library is a core communing space for students independent learning and research group study and for campus staff faculty and Indianapolis community meetings and events. Within this space a multitude of library services supporting these community members success are provided by fulltime and student employees. The Associate Dean for Public Service is responsible for ensuring a consistent positive inbuilding and frontline service user experience. Using consensus building assessment data inquiry of user and campus needs and considering national library service best practices and the library budget the Associate Dean for Public Services strategically develops and maintains in collaboration with other library and campus units frontline services and space provision. Embracing the librarys role as one of the largest employers of students on campus and buttressing IU Indianapoliss student retention and careerpreparedness priorities the Associate Dean supports the development of the librarys Student Employment Program. This is a tenuretrack position with an anticipated start date of April 1 2025. Responsibilities Encourage a collegial environment one in which all members feel valued that they have a stake in the endeavor that they are part of a team and that they have ownership in the Librarys goals. In partnership with fellow library leaders develop and collaboratively implement a librarywide public service philosophy. Serve as the library administrator responsible for supporting and representing the following units/programs and supporting the library strategic priorities progress connected to those units/programs. Access Services Team (encompassing main Service & Information Desk Course Reserves Book Stacks management and Building Security). Student Employment Program Client Support Team (fulltime staff on this team reports to centralized University Information and Technology Services) Virtual Reality Lab Mentor and support individuals you supervise in achieving their performance goals. Supervised individuals include: Director of Student Employment as Engaged Learning Director of Access Services Virtual Reality Lab Coordinator With the Herbert Simon Family Dean colead the librarys participation in envisioning the IU Indianapolis Student Success District. Develop interpret and implement library campus and university guidelines policies and procedures as they apply to public services library space and student employment. Lead the Librarys Building Experience Access and Technology BEAT group. Collect and support analysis of metrics related to public services and space utilization and develop datainformed recommendations for service enhancement. Help maximize use and application of existing library campus and university technologies and investigate new technologies to support public service provision. Ensure the collecting use and sharing of appropriate metrics to inform decision making in units supervised and connected to library public service provision generally. Responsible for ensuring the Library has an uptodate emergency management plan and that necessary individuals including but not limited to public services employees library employees and building residents are regularly trained offered training on emergency procedures. As a member of the senior leadership team contribute to strategic fiscal and overall management of the library. Compensation and Application The minimum salary for this position is $90000 comprised of a set annual compensation rate based on librarian rank as well as an administrative component commensurate with the management responsibilities of the role and including additional funding for professional development and travel. Benefits include 22 vacation days 10 paid holidays health/dental insurance options and retirement contributions of 10 to a Fidelity Investments retirement plan.
