Job Description

Position Overview:

The School of Nursing at Boise State University invites applications for a Program Director with a Clinical Open Rank Professor position. The primary responsibility of the Program Director involves leading and managing the prelicence BS program overseeing curriculum instruction program development and clinical placements. Clinical faculty involves teaching students in both academic and clinical settings supervising clinical experiences and engaging in professionally related community service. While they may they are not required to participate in research or scholarship activities as part of their regular assignment. The successful candidate will have a background in nurse education and competence in a specific clinical practice area. Candidates should also be technologically competent and able to use technology to deliver effective education.

This position is locationspecific to the Boise State University campus and requires inperson prelicense BS program teaching. Clinical faculty generally teach 12 hours of didactic and clinical/lab/simulation courses or 80 of the allotted workload per semester with the remaining time devoted toward research and service. For this position the ideal candidate will work mainly with students in the learning lab simulation lab and out in the clinical setting. There may be opportunities for a didactic workload assignment in the future.

Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP): A program offered through the BSDNP Doctor of Nursing Practice.

Adult Gerontology Nurse Practitioner (AGNP): A program offered through the BSDNP Doctor of Nursing Practice.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Ability to appropriately manage faculty workload and provide oversight of faculty performance.

  • Oversight of curriculum development implementation and evaluation of the educational program.

  • Oversight of program standards for admission progression and graduation.

  • Oversight of program resources.

  • Oversight of program policy development implementation and enforcement.

  • Ensure program contribution to the strategic plan for the School College and University.

  • Analysis of program data and creation of program reports required by the university accreditation agencies (AACN & NONPF) and the Idaho State Board of Nursing.

  • Ensure there are sufficient numbers of adequately prepared faculty to teach required courses.

  • Ensure optimum communication with the rest of the University the Graduate college (for graduate program directors) the community the school and within the program.

  • Ensure full time and adjunct faculty are oriented and adequately mentored to their roles and courses.

  • Ensure clinical placements are completed for program and all compliance documentation and clinical affiliations are complete.

  • Ensure program faculty members are provided with opportunities to make progress toward promotion and/or tenure.

  • Resolution of personnel and student issues as appropriate within the School.

  • Formation and oversight of program teams/committees.

  • Development of course schedules and workload assignments with faculty relevant staff and Program Directors.

  • Ensure on campus sessions/classes are designed and conducted using best teaching practices student needs and fit with the curriculum.

  • Annual evaluation of full time and adjunct faculty (includes a review of student evaluations of faculty).

  • Demonstrate and mentor faculty in effective and evidencebased teaching methods.

  • Provide collaborative positive leadership for program faculty and staff to conduct program activities.

  • Work in collaboration with school leadership and as a member of the leadership team to plan and lead SON programs and initiatives.

  • Participate in Program School College and University committees and activities.

  • Work with other nursing program directors to ensure the curriculum is appropriately aligned.

  • Provide relevant professional service and/or nursing representation in the community and external to the university such as in professional associations boards journals etc.

  • Develop and maintain positive working relationships with others within the University the community and clinical agencies.

  • Participate in activities promoting personal and professional educational growth.

  • Uphold the Faculty Expectations Policy which includes commitment to the COHS Shared Values.

*Teaching effectiveness creative scholarship and community and University activities are incorporated in the above position responsibilities and are used for annual faculty evaluation and for promotion and tenure.

Minimum qualifications:

  • Nursing degree required: Masters degree with a focus in nursing.

  • Licensure as a Registered Nurse in Idaho or Nursing compact states by starting date of employment required.

  • Capability to develop administer and evaluate curriculum to meet outcomes.

  • Ability to handle complex scheduling with interdependencies.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience directing a nursing program

  • 1 to 3 years of Higher Education experience

  • Proficiency in implementing continuous quality improvement processes

  • Experience managing a budget and operational costs

  • Familiarity with accreditation certification or regulations and programmatic implications

  • 2 to 3 years of leadership and management experience

  • Oncampus at Boise State (not remote)
