Location: Fernwood Community Centre 1240 Gladstone Avenue; Fiddleheads Learning Studios 1180 Queens Ave & George Jay Elementary School 1118 Princess Ave Victoria BC
Hours: Part time position of up to 30 hrs./week this includes Morning Care Afternoon Care and Administrative hours. MondayFriday your main daily schedule will be determined by program need and may fall anytime during operating hours 7:15am 5:30pm).
Reports to: Child Care Coordinator Child Care Manager and ultimately Director of Child Care

Position Overview:
The Team Lead is crucial in fostering positive relationships with the children in our care their families and for the daytoday operations of the Out of School Care Program. This includes program and curriculum planning that is holistic and aligned with the organizational values and the Early Learning Framework. as well as working effectively with staff families and children connecting with the community mentoring students recording appropriate documentation maintaining current files developing a strong collaborative team and providing leadership in keeping with the philosophy of Fernwood NRG Child Care Programs and the BC child care licensing regulations.
Key Responsibilities
Staff Supervision
Hold self and child care team accountable for:
Providing excellent care
Adhering to the daily and staff schedule (or leading staff to find a solution/be flexible if a deviation from the schedule is required)
Have flexibility to change shifts to help provide coverage for absent child care providers when required.
Help support staff through conflict resolution in a timely and appropriate manner.
Document all inappropriate staff conduct and report to the leadership team.
Ensure staff are following appropriate behaviour guidance strategies with the children.
Program Delivery & Operations
Foster a supportive caring and emotionally aware environment.
Establish clear behavioural expectations using positive guidance.
Plan and implement daily activities including culturally diverse experiences.
Ensure health and safety by monitoring the environment following licensing requirements and administering medications as needed.
Report incidents attend to childrens needs and follow child protection procedures.
Centre Operations & Team Collaboration
Maintain a clean and organized environment.
Participate in meetings performance reviews and collaborative teamwork.
Ensure compliance with licensing requirements.
Administrative & Documentation
Maintain accurate files documentation and inventory.
Communicate effectively with families about programming and child progress.
Serve as the point of contact for parents/guardians fostering strong professional relationships.
Professionalism & Centre Operations
Follow licensing requirements and centre policies.
Maintain professionalism and confidentiality in all interactions.
Attend staff meetings maintain punctuality carry out assigned responsibilities and other duties as needed.
Working Conditions
Ability to lift and move chairs cots mats etc. (up to 30lbs).
Ability to work positively in a busy and loud environment.
Ability to work outside in a variety of weather conditions.
Ability to stand for long periods of time run occasionally crouch and bend frequently.
Requirements & Qualifications
Responsible Adult Certificate or equivalent training in health safety and nutrition.
Current First Aid Certified.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a strong family centred lens.
Minimum 1 year of experience working in licensed child care programs for ages 511.
Ability to work collaboratively in team settings and work positively in a shared work environment.
Ability to problemsolve prioritize tasks and take initiative.
An understanding of and commitment to the importance of client confidentiality.
Demonstrated ability to follow instructions take initiative in completing assigned tasks and remain accountable for actions outcomes and work quality.
Professional adaptable and responsive with a proactive to work and collaboration.
Additional Assets
ECEA Certificate
Proficiency in languages other than English.
Experience building professional trusting relationships with parents caregivers and/or young children
Leadership experience.
Experience in Trauma informed training
Familiar with or ability to quickly gain familiarity with BC Child Care Licensing Regulations.
Other Requirements
Candidates who progress through our selection process will be required to provide the following before an employment agreement is finalized.
Must provide a record of immunization status for childcare licensing.
Must provide two professional references.
All employees within Fernwood NRG require a Vulnerable Sector Criminal Record Check upon being hired.
Compensation & Benefits:
After 3 months of employment you are eligible for paid time off including annual paid time off in addition to vacation according to organizational policies. This currently includes a winter holiday closure period paid sick days additional to the Employment Standards Act standard religious/cultural observance days and moving days;

Unionized Position
Fernwood Neighbourhood House is a unionized workplace and this position is part of the BC General Employees Union (BCGEU). We are currently negotiating our first collective agreement. The compensation package for this role reflects current wages and benefits with adjustments anticipated once the collective agreement is finalized.
