Overview:



Job Description Summary:


Verifies and processes patient charges and payments communicates with insurance companies and patients to resolve billing issues and maintains accurate records of financial transactions.


Job Description:


Essential Functions:

  • Prepares and submits accurate and timely hard copy and electronic billing for all patients accounts to the appropriate payers.
  • Resolves billing discrepancies incorrectly paid claims and payer problems. Monitors denial reports and resolves denied claims resubmitting corrected claims or billing family as appropriate.
  • Coordinates with governmental agencies thirdparty payers and internal auditors to ensure maximum reimbursement for hospital services.
  • Communicates with patients to discuss billing questions and payment options.
  • Performs timely collection activities on accounts and processes late charges.
  • Maintains patient records and ensures confidentiality of sensitive information.


Education Requirement:

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Associate degree preferred.

Skills:

  • Knowledge of medical terminology various claim forms third party contracts and payment patterns CPT and ICD9 coding and reimbursement regulations and policies of thirdparty payers.
  • The ability to do data entry and work a calculator.
  • Problem identification and problem solving skills are required.
  • Excellent interpersonal verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent organization skills and the ability to comprehend and follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Demonstrated traits of teamwork cooperation and positive and enthusiastic role model.
  • Strong professional demeanor with the inherent quality to rapidly establish credibility and rapport with staff and customers.

Experience:

  • Three years of experience in medical billing claims followup and customer service required.
  • One year experience working on a mainframe computer. Experience using Outlook Word and Excel required.
