Job Description

Orchard Farm Elementary School is a Leader In Me Lighthouse School State School of Character and Model PLC School. We are seeking a positive and talented Paraprofessional to join our team in the Special Education department!

Located in northeast St. Charles County MO the last decade of new developments such as Charlestowne and New Town situated along Highway 370 have contributed significantly to the increased growth of enrollment and the community. Orchard Farm School District has a current enrollment of approximately 2.600 student across the 6 buildings including High School 912 Junior High 78 Middle School 56 two K4 Elementary Schools and the Early Learning Center. Paraprofessionals provide social physical and academic support and/or supervision in general and special education settings including but not limited to the cafeteria classrooms recess and assemblies. These services may include ambulatory eating toileting assistance behavior management academic interventions/enrichment and data collection.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School diploma or equivalent required
  • 3660 credit hours from an accredited college/university or DESE approved 20hour substitute certification course preferred.
  • Missouri substitute certification preferred see how to obtain below.
  • Two 2 years working with students/children preferred.
  • Ability to relate to students staff and parents in a positive manner
  • Ability to communicate clearly in verbal and written form
  • Ability to follow written and oral communication
  • Ability to use word processing and data entry systems
  • Ability to lift up to 75 lbs occasionally
  • Ability to squat bend kneel reach walk stand frequently
  • Ability to problem solve situations in a professional and logical manner
  • Ability to remain calm and patient at all times
  • Ability to motivate students for classroom achievements

An individual who holds this position is required to:

  • Assist students with disabilities according to their individualized needs including transferring to and from wheelchairs lifting or positioning
  • Assist students with physical care including feeding bathroom needs and personal hygiene
  • Assist in managing the behavior of students
  • Keep the teacher informed of any special needs or problems of individual students
  • Maintain confidentiality of information about children and their families in accordance with Board policy and law
  • Participate in staff development training programs faculty meetings and special events when requested by administration
  • Help supervise arrival and departure of students and provide supervision and support in multiple settings throughout the school day
  • Follow instructions from teachers and administrators

This position is in an active school setting where teamwork is valued. Most of the day is indoors but occasional outdoor activities are required such as loading and unloading students from district transportation and supervising recess.
