Job Description

Note: Only those serving in the permanent civil service title of Certified IT Admin. (Lan/Wan) will be considered.

The Fire Department of the City of New York (FDNY) is the largest Fire Department in the United States and universally is recognized as the worlds busiest and most highly skilled emergency response agency. The Departments main goal is to provide fire protection emergency medical care and other critical public safety services to residents and visitors in the five boroughs. FDNY members are sworn to serve and protect life and property and the Department works to continually educate the public in fire life safety and disaster preparedness along with enforcing public safety codes. Since its inception in 1865 FDNY has helped lead efforts to make New York the safest big city in the nation. This accomplishment requires a steadfast and daily commitment to maintaining the Departments core values.

The Fire Department City of New York (FDNY) seeks a fulltime Systems Engineer in the Bureau of Technology Development and Systems. Reporting directly to the Manager Servers and Systems the successful candidate will:
Manage Virtualization infrastructure including computer hardware storage and network integration
Manage VDI infrastructure
Serve as a subject matter expert in the management of Windows Operating Systems and virtual appliances
Architect new IT solutions in response to business needs
Automate common tasks using Powershell
Troubleshoot production issues including reviewing logs performing and analyzing network packet captures and correlating events across disparate systems
Manage shared infrastructure services including Active Directory DNS Backup software monitoring and security tools
Assist with projects involving the implementation migration and upgrade of it systems
Maintain a consistent focus on the security of the IT ecosystem including password security patching and hardening of attack exposure.

Special Working Conditions: May be required to work shifts including nights Saturdays Sundays and holidays.

Qualifications :

Professional/vendor certification(s) in local area network administration that is required for the position to be filled. In addition all candidates must have the following:

1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two years of satisfactory fulltime (not classroom based) experience in local area network and/or wide area network planning design configuration installation implementation troubleshooting integration performance monitoring maintenance enhancement and security management; or

2. A fouryear high school diploma or its educational equivalent and six years of satisfactory fulltime (not classroom based) information technology experience of which at least 2 years must have been as described in 1 or

3. A satisfactory equivalent of education and/or experience equivalent to 1 or 2 above. Education may be substituted for experience on the basis that 30 undergraduate semester credits from an accredited college is equivalent to 6 months of experience. A masters degree in computer science or a related field from an accredited college may be substitute for one year of experience. However all candidates must have at least one year of satisfactory (not classroom based) fulltime information technology experience as described in 1 above.

Note: In addition to meeting the minimum Qualification Requirements: Incumbents may be required to update existing and/or obtain additional professional industrystandard certification(s) for current and future technical environments(s) in which they may be assigned to work as determined by the employing agency.
