About the role:
Samsara is seeking a Senior Data Engineer / Scientist to join our People Analytics team. As a Senior Data Engineer / Scientist your primary responsibilities will be designing and maintaining data pipelines along with building and transforming data structures according to business needs. You will work directly with data scientists data analysts and Tableau developers on the People Analytics team to ship top quality analytic products that help ensure decisions regarding Samsaras people are properly informed by data.
This is a remote position open to candidates residing in the US and Canadaexcept Alaska Austin Metro Boulder Metro California Chicago Metro Connecticut Dallas Metro Denver Metro Houston Metro Maryland Massachusetts New Jersey New York Rhode Island and Seattle Metro. Relocationis not available.

In this role you will:
- Build and maintain highly reliable computed tables incorporating data from various sources including unstructured and highly sensitive data
- Access manipulate and integrate external datasets with internal data
- Building analytical and statistical models to identify patterns anomalies and root causes
- Leverage SQL and Python to shape and aggregate data
- Incorporate generative AI tools (ChatGPT Enterprise) into production data pipelines and automated workflows
- Collaborate closely with data scientists data analysts and Tableau developers to ship top quality analytic products
- Champion role model and embed Samsaras cultural principles (Focus on Customer Success Build for the Long Term Adopt a Growth Mindset Be Inclusive Win as a Team) as we scale globally and across new offices
Minimum requirements for the role:
- BS degree in Computer Science Statistics Engineering or a related quantitative discipline
- 6 years experience in a data engineering and data sciencefocused role
- Proficiency in data manipulation and processing in SQL and Python
- Expertise building data pipelines with new API endpoints from their documentation
- Proficiency in building ETL pipelines to handle large volumes of data
- Demonstrated experience in designing data models at scale
An ideal candidate also has:
- M.S. or PhD degree in Computer Science Statistics Engineering or a related quantitative discipline
- Experience scaling data pipelines for performance
- Experience building statistical and other analytical models
- Experience maintaining data pipelines with Databricks
- Experience with techniques to protect sensitive data structures
- Experience automating manual workflows with code
- Experience with Sparkbased data platforms
