Job Description:

The Counseling and Wellness Center (CWC) at the University of Florida is seeking a clinician with experience in collegiate mental health who thrives in an environment that values collaboration and support among team members and will serve as CWCs Assistant Director for Clinical Services/Clinical Assistant/Associate Professor. The Assistant Director for Clinical Services assists the Associate Director for Clinical Services in providing leadership vision coordination and oversight for clinical services and operations. They are responsible to the Director or Associate Director of Clinical Services or appropriate higherlevel administrator. They may function as the Associate Director for clinical services in their absence as required.

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Assists in providing clinical guidance and expertise to counseling providers staff training and support and developing and implementing clinical policies and procedures.
  • Assists in ensuring that the goals and objectives for the department are communicated and achieved.
  • Assists in coordinating the scheduling and oversight of clinical services for the center including consultation individual couples and group sessions. May assist in creating collaborative case conference teams.
  • Provides consultative services to university administrators faculty staff campus organizations and student family members regarding clinical services available at CWC. Consults with students who are requesting and/or are in need of a new/different therapist with the CWC.
  • Reviews client files/charts to respond to clinical questions records requests (including but not limited to providing letters/documentation in absence of provider of record government job searches/background checks etc.
  • Serves as leadership & support directing strategic planning for clinical services.
  • Provides direct timelimited individual counseling group counseling outreach services and supervision to trainees depending on administrative demands.
  • Provides campus consultation and crisis intervention. Consults with faculty staff students and family members who are concerned about a student.
  • Participates in professional training and teaching scholarly activities (professional presentations leadership and publications) as appropriate to role. Performs administrative and committee responsibilities as required.
  • The Assistant Director for Clinical Services will serve as the backup on call counselor to our afterhours service for 12 weeks per year on random rotation after hours and 12 daytime on call shifts during holiday breaks.
  • Assists with data collection and tracking of clinical outcomes to ensure clinical practices of the CWC align with strategic goals.

To be successful in this role you should possess:

  • Evidence of expertise in current and emerging collegeage mental health issues and experience working in a college or university mental health setting.
  • Experience working with a wide range of mental health concerns and levels of severity.
  • The successful candidate should have experience in one or more of the following areas related to collegiate mental health: assessment/psychological testing neurodivergence alcohol & other drug use trauma disordered eating concerns attentiondeficit/hyperactivity disorders and/or psychotherapy and outreach with students from a range of identities/cultural backgrounds.
  • Skilled at effective interactions with collegeage populations international students parents/families staff faculty and administrators.
  • Strong background with coordinating the scheduling and oversight of clinical services for the center.
  • Skilled at consultation services to university administrators faculty staff and campus organizations regarding clinical services available at the CWC.
  • Ability to maintain smooth efficient daytoday operation of clinical service activities with the CWC; including serving as the administrative point of contact for the CWC for all clinical service activities.
  • At least one year of clinicaladministrative and leadership experience including strategic planning and/or progressively responsible experience.
  • Ability to plan and coordinate the staffing of clinical services to include the recruitment and administration of clinical support staff as appropriate to the activity.
  • Effective communication writing critical thinking and organizational skills required to develop and maintain policies procedures and clinical delivery systems for the agency and divisional/university reports.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team and with external stakeholders including University of Florida Institutional Review Board office and the Center for Collegiate Mental Health (CCMH).
  • Skilled in the use of technologies in support of data collection analysis and reporting; including (at minimum) Qualtrics Excel and SPSS and open to learning about AI Power BI and other tools.
  • Demonstrated talent for collaboration and team building and ability to build and maintain effective trusting working relationships that reflect kindness mutual respect and honesty when working with varying perspectives among university students staff and internal and external partners.
  • Ability to cope with change to shift gears comfortably and to handle risk and uncertainty.
  • Strong program development and evaluation skills required for clinical utilization tracking clinical services training outcome assessment and quality assurance and utilization review.
  • A broad systems thinker knowledgeable about organizations and how they work combined with tact and diplomacy to navigate complex environments effectively.
  • Strong listening skills with the patience to hear people out.
  • Demonstrated commitment to the highest ethical standards of professional practice as well as an understanding of and commitment to viewpoint diversity in the delivery and management of clinical services.
  • Proven ability to successfully interact with multiple perspectives among individuals and groups.
  • Knowledge of applicable laws ethics and professional standards pertaining to all mental health fields in Florida.

Expected Salary:

Salary negotiable based on qualifications and experience.

Minimum Requirements:

Clinical Associate/Assistant Professors must 1 have a doctoral degree in clinical psychology counseling psychology or counseling from an APA or CACREP accredited doctoral program or doctoral degree in closely related field OR doctoral degree in closely related field; and 2 be licensed as a mental health professional or psychologist in the state of Florida within two years of employment. Applicants who have completed all requirements for a doctoral degree within their respective program with the exception of a doctoral dissertation/defense are eligible to apply if the applicant will obtain said qualification within one 1 year of appointment.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience working in settings with more chronic/complex presenting concerns.
  • Demonstrated skill in working well under pressure to prioritize and manage multiple clinical/crisis situations and to coordinate these efforts as a part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Energy to flexibly manage the professional demands of a challenging workload while maintaining positive and healthy perspectives and relationships.
  • Collaborative spirit of warmth acceptance respect and trust towards colleagues.
  • Experience in college mental health including crisis assessment/management/intervention shortterm treatment confidentiality requirements outreach and referral.
  • Strong interest and experience with training and supervising students from various disciplines at the masters doctoral and postdoctoral level.
