Position Title: SpeechLanguage Pathologist
Location: VariousDistrict Sites
Supervisor: Special Education Director Site Principal(s)
Days/Hours: 180 days a year/7 hours daily
Status: Exempt
Travel: Required (site to site) Must have a reliable vehicle/Travel Stipend will be given (if warranted).
Salary: Add 15 to base salary for Special Education (Specialized)/ Additional Stipend for Communication Liaison $5000.00
Purpose:The Speech/Language Pathologist assists in developing speech and language skills to facilitate students personal social and intellectual development. To respond to students individual needs and abilities the Speech/Language Pathologist must work closely with the parents and administration of the school district.
Qualifications:
1. High School diploma or equivalent.
2. Masters degree from an accredited college/university.
3. The current Oklahoma State Teaching Certificate is on file in the Central Office.
4. Current Oklahoma Speech Pathologist License on file in the Central Office.
Essential Functions:
1. Assist in developing speech and language skills to facilitate students personal social and intellectual development.
2. Establish a positive learning environment and respond to students needs.
3. Ensure that all activities conform to district and cooperative guidelines.
4. Communicate effectively with all school district employees and community members.
5. Work effectively with community organizations.
6. Appropriately operate all equipment as required.
7. React to change productively and handle other tasks as assigned.
8. Support the value of education.
9. Support the philosophy and vision of the cooperative and school district.
General Responsibilities:
1. Assist in the early recognition and prevention of educational problems.
2. Monitor student progress and make informed timely educational decisions.
3. Conduct speech language and hearing screenings and diagnostic evaluations to determine the need for clinical services.
4. Participate in the comprehensive evaluation review and reevaluation process as a team member.
5. Participate in the development of student IEPs.
6. Adhere to required program guidelines as defined by the Oklahoma State Department of Education regarding Special Education Services
7. Consult with parents teachers administrators and others concerning the needs of students and the available special services.
8. Assist teachers in developing and implementing curriculum modifications and appropriate classroom strategies.
9. Refer students and their families to appropriate community agencies and services.
10. Cooperate with agencies serving students and their families.
11. Provide therapy followup and/or consultation based on student IEPs.
12. Motivate students through effective communication and evaluative feedback.
13. Demonstrate awareness of the needs of students and provide for individual differences.
14. Set high expectations for student achievement and behavior.
15. Demonstrate effective interpersonal relationships with others.
16. Establish and maintain a positive climate for learning through appropriate classroom management.
17. Plan and implement transitional programs for students.
18. Assist students in developing feelings of selfworth and making social adjustments that permit them to cope with disabilities.
19. Maintain appropriate confidential records and provide timely reports.
20. Order and maintain an adequate inventory of materials and supplies.
21. Supervise and train staff members as assigned.
22. Assist with public awareness activities that lead to a better understanding of theneeds of exceptional children.
23. Keep abreast of new information innovative ideas and techniques.
24. See that school district and cooperative policies are observed during all activities.
25. Obtain advance approval for all special activities and expenditures.
26. Adhere to all district and cooperative health and safety policies including all precautions against Bloodborne Pathogens and other required professional development.
27. Other duties as assigned by the Director of Special Education
Physical Requirements/Environmental Conditions:
1. Requires prolonged sitting or standing.
2. Occasionally requires physical exertion to manually move lift carry pull or push heavy objects materials or students.
3. Occasional stooping bending and reaching.
4. Requires some travel.
5. Must work in noisy and crowded environments.
