Short Description
The trained technologist under the direct supervision of the Registered Professional Nurse and or physician is assigned as an assistant to specific service areas in the Surgical Suite.
Experience Required
- One year of experience as a Surgical Technologist is preferred.
OR - Employment as a Surgical Technologist in a healthcare facility prior to the effective date of NJSA 26:2H12.62 (December 11 2011.
OR - Current service with the federal government performing surgical technology duties as part of that role.
Education Requirements
- Graduate of a nationally or regionally accredited educational program for Surgical Technologists.
OR - Successful completion of a training program for Surgical Technology in the U.S. Army Navy Air Force Marine Corps Coast Guard or Public Health Service Commissioned Corps.
OR - Equivalent experience: Applies to individuals employed as Surgical Technologists (as detailed in the Experience section) prior to the effective date of NJSA 26:2H12.62 (December 11 2011.
License/Certification Requirements
- Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) Credential administered by the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA).
OR - Certification from its successor or another nationally recognized credentialing organization (e.g. National Center for Competency Testing NCCT).
Special Requirements
- Required to work Saturdays and Sundays.
- Nine shifts in a 6week schedule required.
- Each shift is a 12hour shift.
- Required to work holidays that fall on Saturdays and Sunday.
