General Summary/Overview Statement
Under the general supervision of the Project Director for Partners eCare Training and in partnership with Application Coordinators and departmental managers and leaders the Instructional Designer (ID) is responsible for the design development and delivery of application training to end users for an assigned application area. Applications include Emergency Clinical Documentation Cardiology Obstetrics CPOE/eMar Inpatient Pharmacy Oncology Prelude/ADT HIM OR Anesthesia Radiology Home Health and additional modules as acquired.
IDs are responsible for mastering both an Epic application and Partners workflows. They lead the development and implementation of the training program for their respective application(s). IDs are integral members of the application workgroup and participate in workflow design and system build in order to gain indepth knowledge of the system functionality and rationale for the workflow design. IDs are accountable to the Application Manager for their assigned application(s).
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
Coordinates the development and implementation of training strategies plans and processes for the assigned application in conjunction with the overall Partners eCare Training program strategy and training goals.
Participates in workflow design and system build activities
Develops and maintains the course curricula and training materials for assigned application(s)
Participates in the building testing and maintaining of the training environment
Managing updates to policy and procedure documentation related to training
Conduct training for staff and credentialed trainers
Responsible for coordination of detailed curriculum content (script)
Designing and developing rolebased training programs to support the workflows to be implemented.
Developing and maintaining the training environment in a manner consistent with the overall training strategy and approach.
Coordinating training logistics (courses classrooms registrations timeframes etc. in collaboration with the other members of the project team and department managers.
Preparing training materials used during training sessions.
Preparing the Epic Training system for handson training developing training scenarios and training patients etc.
Training and supervising Credentialed Trainers.
Training endusers on proper use of the application.
Training newlyhired employees as part of their orientation.
Maintaining system documentation.
Coordinating training of endusers for new releases.
Providing demonstrations of system functionality as necessary.
Bachelors degree in a clinical or related field: Masters Degree preferred
3 4 years of technical education experience required
58 years experience in education/staff development and/or a clinical area preferably a combination of both clinical experience and education.
Previous management experience desired
Epic Certification desired or must obtain Epic Certification as outlined by program requirements.
Skills/Abilities/Competencies Required
Demonstrates the ability to learn and utilize new clinical applications software and systems.
Extensive experience interacting with customers to gather and understand their training business and technical requirements.
Extensive knowledge of adult learning principles and demonstrated experience in their use when developing training plans
Strong project and process management skills; ability to manage complex projects with a medium to large scope.
Excellent communication skills
Knowledge and experience with hospital and information systems and business practices
Ability to assist other team members with their technical issues
Must be able to keep self abreast of educational and technological trends as well as healthcare technology trends
Working Conditions
Office setting with some local travel between Partners Healthcare System sites.
Supervisory Responsibility
Supervisory responsibility for 410 Credentialed Trainers (temporary staff) for 69 months surrounding live.
