The HVAC (Heating Ventilation and Air Conditioning) Technician is primarily responsible for the operation maintenance and repair of heating ventilation air conditioning and refrigeration systems within the university. This position ensures optimal functioning of HVAC systems to provide a comfortable and safe environment for building occupants. This role reports directly to the Director of Facilities.
Essential Functions:
- Operate monitor and maintain heating and cooling systems including boilers chillers air handling units pumps fans and related equipment.
- Adjust and calibrate HVAC systems to maintain optimal performance and energy efficiency.
- Perform routine preventive maintenance tasks on HVAC systems according to established schedules.
- Troubleshoot and diagnose HVAC equipment malfunctions and make repairs as needed
- Replace or repair defective components such as motors compressors belts filters and controls.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements building codes and environmental standards related to HVAC operations.
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance and repair activities including equipment logs and service reports.
- Respond promptly to HVAC system emergencies and participate in afterhours oncall rotation as needed.
- Communicate effectively with building occupants regarding HVAC maintenance activities and operational changes.
- The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that logically relate to the position.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
- Proven experience as an HVAC Technician or HVAC Operator with knowledge of HVAC systems and components.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals blueprints and schematics.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
- Physical ability to lift heavy equipment and work in confined spaces.
Minimum Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent; completion of a vocational or technical HVAC program preferred.
- Relevant HVAC certifications.
- Must have a valid drivers license
- Flexibility to work outside of normal business hours.
