Job Description

Obstetrics and Gynecology Hospitalists

There are available positions for fulltime or parttime 12month (July 1June 30 service period) annual appointments.

Anticipated start date is February 1 2025.

Position Description

We have exceptional full and parttime opportunities to join our growing Academic Obstetrics and Gynecology Hospitalist service at University of Washington Medical CenterNorthwest (UWMCNW) at the rank of Clinical Assistant Professor. UWMCNW is the bustling communitybased campus of UWMC with a new state of the art Labor and Delivery Unit and annual birth volumes of 1700 with projected growth to 2000 over the next few years. UWMCNW has a highly collaborative culture on the Labor and Delivery Unit with exceptional relationships between physicians nurses midwives and support staff. As part of the University of Washington there are strong opportunities for surgical and clinical mentorship and selected applicants would have the opportunity to engage in teaching research and service in general Obstetrics and Gynecology.

A 1.0 FTE Academic OBGYN Hospitalist faculty member at UWNW provides ample time for both clinical and administrative responsibilities.

Clinical responsibilities add up to 73 shifts per year or an average of six 24hour shifts per month.This shift count accounts for generous paid fourweek vacation and twoweek CME benefits. 24hour call is inhouse with a Generalist OBGYN partner.Primary clinical responsibilities include:

  • Evaluation of patients in OB triage
  • Consultation and surgical coverage for family medicine and midwifery colleagues on labor and delivery
  • Direct inpatient care on the antepartum and postpartum services
  • Labor management primary or assistant surgeon in cesarean sections operative and spontaneous vaginal deliveries
  • Consultation and surgical management for the Northwest Emergency Department

Administrative time is allotted for the following:

  • Attendance to monthly Division meetings
  • Attendance to departmental presentations such as Grand Rounds and M&M Conference
  • Contributions to the training of residents and medical students
  • Participation in quality improvement initiatives for the labor and delivery unit. Examples include OB sepsis working group NTSV committee and substance use in pregnancy working group.

As a parttime 0.50 FTE) position clinical responsibilities add up to 48 shifts per year or an average of four 24hour shifts per month without vacation CME or administrative time included.

The fulltime salary range for this position will be: $19167 $25000 per month $230004 $300000 annually) commensurate with experience and qualifications or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination. This range is inclusive of base salary provided through the UW Physicians (UWP) practice plan in addition to base salary provided by the University. Please note that only compensation provided by the University is included in University benefit determinations and calculations. Compensation provided by UW Physicians (UWP) practice plan may provide eligibility for separate benefits offered by that organization.

All University of Washington faculty have opportunities to engage in teaching research and service.



  • MD or DO degree or foreign equivalent.
  • Board eligibility/certification in Obstetrics and Gynecology and an excellent record of clinical service.
  • Two years of work experience is preferred however we will happily consider new Ob/Gyn residency graduates and hospitalist fellowship graduates with academic career interests
  • Gynecologic surgical proficiency required. Robotic experience is not necessary.
