Job Description

Job Summary:

West Texas A&M University is inviting applications for the position of Assistant Professor of Public Administration who will also serve as the Director of the Emergency Management Administration program (EMA). The start date is fall 2025. The ideal candidate will teach core courses in emergency management and be able to offer courses in the Master of Public Administration (MPA) program with a preference to candidates that can teach a core course in public finance as well as courses in nonprofit management. Both the EMA and MPA are online programs so preference will be given to candidates who demonstrate an acumen and desire to teach effectively and connect to students that are primarily nontraditional/professional in the remote environment.

This is a ninemonth tenuretrack position with the possibility for summer teaching. Candidates will be required to teach a 33 course load as well as actively publish in quality journals. Service requirements include serving as the director of the EMA program that has over 100 undergraduate majors.

Work Performed:

  • The successful candidate will teach a 33 load with two courses a semester in the EMA program and one in the MPA program.
  • The successful candidate will serve as the director of the EMA undergraduate program and be responsible for advising students participating in assessment contributing to curriculum and mentoring students. Other service activities are required.
  • The successful candidate will maintain an active research agenda and engage in scholarship that can contribute to their progress towards tenure.
  • The successful candidate will work with colleagues and administration to advance the mission of the Terry B. Rogers College of Education and Social Sciences.

Necessary Qualifications:

  • Applicants must have a doctorate in Public Administration Emergency Management Public Policy or Political Science with a concentration in Public Administration/Emergency Management; ABDs will be considered.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrate a desire to excel in teaching specifically online.
  • Ability to teach courses in the EMA and MPA program.
  • Mentor and oversee the progress of nontraditional students remotely.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Show a sufficient breadth of experience and interest to teach courses in Emergency Management and Public Administrationrelated topics including emergency preparedness mitigation and response.
  • Ability to teach online graduate courses (MPA) in public finance nonprofit management and quantitative methods.
  • Ability to lead and mentor undergraduate research projects.
  • Willingness to recruit students to the EMA and MPA programs.
  • Evidence of an active research agenda and a track record of success publishing research that aid in obtaining tenure.
