Job Description

KENNETH GORDON MAPLEWOOD SCHOOL

Available Position Elementary Teacher (Effective immediately)

1.0 FTE Temporary to June 20 2025

KGMS offers an inclusive and supported educational experience. All educators work in a collaborative environment to provide students with the most appropriate educational program. Teamwork and collegiality are valued and nurtured within the KGMS Community.

This 1.0 FTE (Temp) position is for the primary designated teacher responsible for instruction in a multigrade elementary classroom. At KGMS we often use a coteaching model to support the diverse needs of our student population. This position will be supported by qualified resource teachers for reading writing and math classes. The ideal candidate will possess a broad range of academic qualifications and teaching skills to meet the needs of students in core academics. Experience in primary education inclusive education and/or OrtonGillingham qualifications would be an asset.

Teachers responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

  • Using a variety of instructional techniques and modalities including technologies that are suitable to the age needs readiness and abilities of students and the subject matter being taught within the School Program;
  • Working to develop skills and stimulate thought through studentcentred experiences and activities with due consideration for individual differences;
  • Adaptation of instruction to suit the diverse learning styles of students;
  • Contributing to the creation monitoring and evaluation of Individual Education Plans in collaboration with a students schoolbased team;
  • Cooperation and collaboration with colleagues and associated personnel in utilizing existing educational services and resources for the benefit of students;
  • Participation in the development and implementation of the philosophy and practices of the School and work in cooperative ways with colleagues to promote the welfare of students;
  • Maintaining appropriate and accurate records of student achievement attendance and other necessary data
  • Maintain frequent effective communication with families in support of positive home and school partnerships.
Qualifications:
  • BC Teacher Certification
  • Additional qualifications or experience in inclusive education an asset
Salary and benefits are paid as per the collective agreement.
