Job Description

Position Summary
Positions in this banded class perform law enforcement work at a University campus or other State facility. With full powers of arrest positions enforce the laws of the State and the United States Government. Positions have law enforcement authority ranging from traffic control to criminal investigations within a limited geographic jurisdiction. Work involves patrolling an assigned area for response to complaints or calls for detection of violations in the enforcement of State laws and applicable regulations. Duties include apprehending observed violators committing offenses investigating violations or complaints to assess and handle cases collecting and preservation of evidence and the chain of custody testifying in court proceedings and performing related work. Positions may serve as a patrol officer detective squad member crime prevention officer or in some police organizations as a lead officer on an assigned shift. Positions at this level have an advanced level of training and experience compared to the Police Officer positions. Master Police Officer I : Candidates will have a minimum of a High School Diploma or GED and six years of experience as a sworn local state or federal law enforcement officer. An advanced degree (JD Masters Doctorate) reduces the minimum experience required by one year. The recruitment salary for this level is $60016 $65274.

Minimum Qualifications
Minimum of High School diploma or GED . At least probationary certification from the NC CJETSC as a commissioned police officer and successful completion of the appointing agencys designated field training program for newly appointed Campus Police Officers. Note: Lateral hires who are already certified NC law enforcement officers and not first hired as a Police Officer Trainee may be assigned this classification conditional on successful completion of the field training program designated by the Agency Head. Outofstate lateral hires must be NC CJETSC certification eligible.

Preferred Qualifications
Candidate must be at least 20 years of age at the time of appointment; candidate must meet physical and psychological requirements of the North Carolina Criminal Education and Standards Commission which includes a physical exam medical exam psychological exam and drug test. In addition the UNC Greensboro Police Department requires candidates to possess a valid North Carolina Drivers License; and pass an indepth background investigation which includes drivers history and criminal history with no felony convictions psychological testing drug screening and physical. Must successfully complete the universitys orientation course and a twelveweek department field training program during the probationary period; must satisfactorily complete the statemandated probationary period. The selected candidate must possess the ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing and deal with the public and representatives of the criminal justice system in a professional manner. The candidate(s) for this position will be considered an ESSENTIAL Emergency Duty Employee. This means that the position is one that is necessary to ensure University operations continue uninterrupted during periods of adverse weather and/or other emergency situations including those that require the University to close. As such the employee in this position will be required to report to work according to their usual schedule or upon notification to report outside of their usual work schedule. Special Physical/Mental Requirements Candidate must meet physical and psychological requirements of the North Carolina Criminal Education and Standards Commission which includes a physical exam psychological exam and drug test. Ability to subdue resisting suspects and effect forcible arrest Ability to defend oneself Ability to operate law enforcement vehicle Pursue fleeing suspects Perform searches of people and buildings Exercise independent judgement Apply appropriate useofforce options Comprehend legal documents (i.e. citations affidavits and warrants) Command emergency personnel at accidents emergencies and disasters Willing to work day and night shift assignments Campus Security Authority Responsibilities This position is designated as a Campus Security Authority in accordance with the Clery Act. This position will be required to report Clery crimes to the Clery Compliance Coordinator and complete annual training about reporting responsibilities.
