Job Description

POSITION CODE: 7520

DEPARTMENT/ADMINISTRATION: Athletics

POSITION: Exempt Fulltime 40 Hours)

SALARY RANGE: $33.00 hourly

INTRODUCTORY PERIOD:Six 6 Months

AVAILABLE:Immediately

Definition of Classification:

Reporting to the Head Athletic Trainer the Assistant Athletic Trainer ensures the health and safety of 21 NCAA Division III intercollegiate athletic program participants and assists the Head Athletic Trainer in the management of a medical clinic.

This position requires flexibility to work evening and weekend hours as well as the ability to travel as required.

Duties and Responsibilities:

The duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Prevention evaluation treatment and rehabilitation of athletic injuries and illnesses providing medical advice based on evidencebased best practices.
  • Provides health care services to studentathletes for home practices and contests.
  • Provides appropriate emergency care and first aid to all studentathletes.
  • Develops patientspecific preventative and rehabilitative programming.
  • Ensures updated medical records and documentation.
  • Assists studentathletes in completing medical eligibility requirements including procuring health screenings and appropriate information relevant to their health and safety.
  • Assists students navigating the health insurance and health care system.
  • Collaborates effectively with coaches and department support staff to provide wholeperson care with a priority on studentathlete health and safety.
  • Collaborates effectively with team physician and other allied health professionals to deliver quality care to studentathletes.
  • Refers studentathletes to other health care professionals when necessary to ensure successful continuation of care.
  • Hires trains supervises and coordinates workstudy student employees.
  • Reviews and updates athletic training department policies procedures and protocols.
  • Educates coaches studentathletes and athletic department support staff on relevant policy updates.
  • Educates athletic department staff on CPR and First Aid certification updates.
  • Maintains annual education schedule for coaches.
  • Demonstrates positive and effective communication in all aspects of position including writing speaking listening and nonverbal skills.
  • Exhibiting the highest professional standards and ethical behavior regarding adherence to NCAA Conference Institutional and Department of Athletics policies and expectations
  • Maintains uptodate knowledge on medical best practices for the athletic population.
  • Enforce safety procedures.
  • Performs other related duties and special projects as assigned.

Qualifications Guidelines

Any combination equivalent to but not limited to the following:

Experience/Training/Education:

Required

  • Bachelors degree required in Physical Education Sports Medicine or a related field.
  • One year experience in a patientfacing role.
  • Must have a current/valid BOC certification.
  • Must have a current CPR/AED certification.
  • A valid California Class C CA drivers license with a good driving record is required. Note: Outofstate licenses are valid until appointment. A valid California Class C drivers license must be obtained within ten 10 days of appointment (in accordance with CA Vehicle Code 12505c).

Preferred

  • Masters degree.
  • CPR Instructor certification.
  • Work experience with a variety of sports.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Knowledge of athletic injury prevention and the administration of therapeutic modalities devices and rehabilitation techniques as well as of firstaid athletic equipment and injury assessment and treatment.
  • Communicate effectively and follow instructions both verbally and in writing.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent technical analytical and problemsolving skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Ability to operate standard office equipment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office software including Excel Word and Outlook.
  • Ability to recommend appropriate courses of action within established guidelines.
  • Ability to foster strong positive relationships and align both internal and external resources to achieve university objectives.
  • Ability to exercise discretion and work with confidentiality.
  • Must be able to competently interact with a culturally and ethnically diverse population of students faculty and staff.

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions:

Working Conditions:

Field/outdoor environment and standard office setting. Duties performed are of an active nature requiring sufficient physical stamina to carry out duties. Some duties may be performed in an office environment while sitting at a desk or computer workstation or in meetings. At least minimal environmental controls to assure health and comfort.

Physical Demands:

Incumbents regularly sit for long periods; walk and stand for extended periods of time; may travel to various locations; use hands and fingers to operate an electronic keyboard or other office machines; reach with hands and arms; stoop or kneel or crouch to file; climb stairs; speak clearly and distinctly to answer telephones and to provide information; see to read fine print and operate computer; hear and understand voices over telephone and in person; and lift carry and/or move objects weighing up to 25 pounds.
