Per Diem Plumber (Night)
Office of Facilities Management Project Control

(Pending availability of funds and Board of Education approval)

The Superintendent invites qualified and interested persons to apply for the position of Per Diem Plumber (Night) within the Office of Facilities Project Control.

DEFINITION: Under direction performs general plumbing work involved in installation and maintenance of plumbing facilities and systems; works with various machine and hand tools common to the plumbing trade; may prepare or work from sketches plans and specifications in accord with the plumbing code or accepted trade practices; takes the lead over and gives assignments to those assigned as helpers; does other related duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

Three 3 years of experience in plumbing work involving a variety of layout installation and maintenance tasks.
Appointees will be required to possess a drivers license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle rather than employee mobility is necessary to perform essential duties of the position.

NOTE: A valid Master Plumbers license issued by the New Jersey State Board of Examiners of Master Plumbing may be substituted for three 3 years of related experience.

NOTE: Applicants may be required to possess a valid Master Plumbers license issued by the New Jersey State Board of Examiners of Master Plumbers as determined by the Appointing Authority.

BASIC FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Installs repairs and/or maintains gas water and waste disposal pipes and facilities.
Troubleshoots malfunctions and makes emergency and permanent repairs.
Removes stoppages from piping and toilet sink and other facilities.
Works with wrought iron cast iron butt welded soil asbestos composition and copper pipe.
Installs and repairs piping systems using flanged screwed bell and spigot compression and soldered joints.
May cover piping and fittings with asbestos or other compositions.
Is familiar with the nomenclature use and installation of reducing pressure relief surge check float gate globe and other types of valves unions sleeves bushings reducers and other fittings and valves.
Is responsible for measuring and fitting of piping and facilities.
Prepares and/or works from sketches plans and specifications and roughingin sheets in accord with the plumbing code or approved trade practices.
Interprets graphic symbols used on piping drawings.
Makes time and materials estimates.
Makes plumbing tests on work in progress and completed work.
Gives assignments to helpers.
Keeps records.
Will be required to learn to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording and information systems used by the agency office or related units.

KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES

Knowledge of problems involved in plumbing work.
Knowledge of standard tools materials methods practices occupational hazards and safety precautions and of keeping necessary records.
Ability to understand remember and carry out oral and written directions.
Ability to take safety precautions in performing the work.
Ability to obtain store safeguard distribute and use needed equipment materials and supplies.
Ability to give assignments.
Ability to establish and maintain records and files.
Ability to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording and information systems used by the agency office or related units.
Ability to read write speak understand and communicate in English sufficiently to perform the duties of this position. American Sign Language or Braille may also be considered as acceptable forms of communication.

SALARY EMPLOYMENT PERIOD AND UNION AFFILIATION

Salary: $65.44/hour
Employment Period: Per Diem
