The King County Roads Services Division Engineering Section is seeking an enthusiastic strategic agile and collaborative leader to manage a unit that consists of 25 to 30 employees in the Fish Passage and Countywide Drainage units including the survey geotechnical and utility inspection groups. We need a proven leader with a high level of communication and organizational skills who can effectively leverage their expertise and experience to strategically resolve challenges to deliver the Fish Passage and Drainage programs.
This position will oversee the daytoday management and administrative functions staff development and management technical review and addressing project issues associated with King Countys roadway network. A high level of expertise and experience in the design and construction of capital projects is expected.
The successful candidate will collaborate with other King County departments and leadership regional partner agencies elected and communitybased organizations. This position will lead the efforts to incorporating climate change and green building elements into projects including Endangered Species Act compliance.

Technical Skills:
INTERVIEW SCHEDULE:First review of applications will take place the week of 4/21/2025. Those applicants who pass the initial screening will be invited to participate in aninterview the week of 5/5/2025.
WHO MAY APPLY:This recruitment is open to all qualified applicants and may be used to fill current and/or future career service termlimited temporary shortterm temporary and/or special duty positions over the next six months. First consideration will be given to current PROTEC17 members in the same classification that are eligible for lateral transfer.

WORK SCHEDULE:This position has a standard 40hour workweek and is exempt from the overtime provisions of the federal Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA). The King County Executive expects all FLSA exempt employees to work the hours necessary to satisfactorily perform their jobs. FLSA exempt employees are paid on a salary basis and are not eligible for overtime pay or compensatory time.
EMERGENCY DESIGNATION STATUS:This position has been designated MissionCritical. Those employees who provide maintain and reestablish essential county functions as described in agency Continuity of Operations plans.
UNION MEMBERSHIP:This position is represented by: PROTEC17.
TELEWORKING REQUIREMENT: This is a hybrid position. The work associated with this position will be performed by teleworking onsite work and meetings as needed. The responsibilities of this position will include regular and ongoing inoffice work. Employees will have access to shared workspaces at various King County facilities. Employees must reside in Washington state and within a reasonable distance to their King County worksite to respond to workplace reporting requirements. Employees will be provided with a County issued laptop and must maintain a workspace with an internet connection (access may be supplemented in some situations) where they can reliably perform work and remain available and responsive during scheduled work hours. King County has a robust collection oftools and resources to support working remotely.
