Ozark School District

Position Title: Nurse (LPN)

Department: Building

Reports To: Building Principal Assistant Superintendent

Evaluated By: Building Principal

FLSA Status: Exempt

JOB SUMMARY: Is responsible for direct child care appraisal and followup of case load. Prepares health care plans for involved students and supervises the implementation of required health care procedures.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Observes special education students on a regular basis to detect health needs.
  • Screens students for health defects including height weight vision hearing scoliosis and kindergarten screenings.
  • Administers medication and treatment prescribed by physicians and oversees procedures for office staff to administer medications in the absence of the school nurse.
  • Conducts parent conferences and maintains liaison between physicians parents and staff.
  • Makes recommendations to primary care physician on health needs of individual students.
  • Maintains uptodate cumulative health records on all students requiring nursing intervention including immunization records and exemptions for religious and medical reasons.
  • Reports to parents school personnel physicians clinics and other agencies on student health matters.
  • Assumes authority in the absence of a physician for the care of a student who has suffered an injury or emergency illness.
  • Administers first aid in accordance with established first aid procedures and district policies.
  • Implements board policy on exclusion and re admission of students in connection withinfectious and contagious diseases.
  • Conducts training for students related to impairments health and hygiene.
  • Assists school personnel in maintaining sanitary standards in schools.
  • Is available to do healthrelated lesson presentations in classrooms.
  • Observes professional ethics and confidentiality.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully an individual must be able to perform

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

Bachelors or associates degree in nursing. Pediatric experience preferred.

CERTIFICATES LICENSES REGISTRATIONS:

License from the State of Arkansas to practice as an LPN.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read analyze and interpret general business periodicals professional journals technical procedures or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports business correspondence and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of students parents staff administrators and the general public.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions percentages ratios and proportions to practical situations. Ability to measure accurately especially as applied to dosages is essential.

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written oral diagram or schedule form.

OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES: Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory to nursing program; ability to plan and implement practices based on department district and school objectives and the needs and abilities of students to whom assigned. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students peers parents and community; ability to speak clearly and concisely in written or oral communication.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job the employee will occasionally sit walk or stand. The employee will occasionally reach forward or above the head more than the average person. Ability to drive to various buildings in the district. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move and push up to 90 pounds such as students and students in wheelchairs. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision distance vision and depth perception.
