Job Description
The School of Music at The University of Tulsa (TU) seeks applicants for a fulltime teaching position as an Applied Assistant Professor of Music/Coordinator of Jazz Studies beginning August 2023. The School of Music is housed in the Kendall College of Arts and Sciences and offers the following undergraduate degrees in Music: BA BM and BME . Located in the beautiful Lorton Performance Center with stateoftheart classroom rehearsal and performance spaces the School of Music has a rich history and is central and foundational to the vibrant and growing Tulsa musical and educational communities. Position responsibilities include: Direct the TU Jazz Ensemble (Big Band I) and administer the overall jazz program. With adjunct instructors coordinate and teach the full jazz curriculum (improvisation combo composition arranging). Teach Jazz History and develop block courses in area of expertise (world musics popular music e.g. Applied instrumental studio teaching (trumpet trombone saxophone or percussion) Demonstrated effectiveness in undergraduate recruiting.
Physical Demands
Typical physical demands associated with teaching music courses lessons ensembles etc. Remote work is not possible in this position.
Required Qualifications
MM or a masters degree with coursework in the areas of instruction and a minimum of five years of directly relevant professional experience.
