Job Description
Installs maintains and repairs physical transport and/or wide area network equipment. Analyzes existing networks and equipment and identifies opportunities for improvement. Identifies analyzes and repairs product failures orders and replaces parts as needed. Determines and recommends which products or services best fit the customers needs. Develops solutions that meet business requirements. A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected. Typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department. UEN Specific Summary: Responsible for statewide provisioning and troubleshooting and repair of existing transport equipment for the Utah Education Network UEN . A sound working knowledge of ROADM DWDM SONET Cisco router/switch configuration and support is essential. Familiarity with large heterogeneous wide area networks and a demonstrated knowledge of networking circuits to include; gigabit Ethernet metro Ethernet OC3 DS3 and DS1 plus experience with TCP /IP OSPF EIGRP BGP and supporting network applications is required.
Responsibilities
Selected candidates will be responsible for statewide provisioning and troubleshooting and repair of existing transport equipment. May be involved with the commissioning/test & turn up of new equipment including but not limited to DWDM Mux Equipment Cisco routers and switches proper placement of copper and fiber as well as their termination. May install and maintains DS1 DS3 OC3 Gigabit Ethernet short haul/wireless and fiber optic transport systems. May require work that can be strenuous to include communication site improvements including building cabling and equipment installation. May require statewide travel and evening and weekend work as necessary. May supervise the work of others.
Minimum Qualifications
Requires a bachelors degree in area of specialty or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience) and 24 years of experience in the field or in a related area. Qualification may vary depending on department utilizing position.
