Job Description
Provides care for laboratory animals and their environment through animal husbandry and keeps records according to State Federal and University regulations.
Responsibilities
Manage breeding colony and research activities including animal euthanasia. Monitor and report animal health cases and administer medical treatments according to veterinary instructions. Maintain accurate and detailed colony records. Provide excellent customer service. Assure proper operation of equipment effectiveness of procedures and cleanliness of animal environment. Assists with the collection of health monitoring and manages accurate and detailed monitoring records. Work individually and as part of a team to ensure that the animal care program remains compliant with all university state and federal regulations. Work Environment and Level of Frequency that may be required: Nearly Continuously : Standard vivarium environment; with typical vivarium environmental hazards and concerns. Standard laboratory environment; Safety shoes are required to be worn by all employees working in animal facilities Seldom : Occasionally handles/works with biohazards or risks for potential jobrelated injury rarely coming in contact with hazardous materials. Physical Requirements and Level of Frequency that may be required: Nearly Continuously: Sitting hearing listening talking walking. Often: Bending reaching overhead twisting. Seldom: Lifting up to 50 pounds kneeling squatting.
Minimum Qualifications
GED or HS Diploma Four years related experience or a related Associates Degree or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience). ALAT to be obtained within one year in the position.
