Supervisory Responsibilities
Teaching Assistant assigned to classroom
Job Purpose
Language Teachers in the Melinda Webb School are responsible formanaging classroom schedules curriculum implementation and studentsupervision during the school day. Language Teachers write individualized goalsfor students track formal and informal data for progress monitoring andparticipate in decisions to determine the most appropriate educationalplacement and plan for each child they teach.
MajorResponsibilities
Develops and implements educational programs forchildren with hearing loss aged 18 months 6 years old
Maintains all required data on students
Monitors and documents student progressattendance and behavior
Completes language listening developmentaland academic testing upon enrollment of each student and three times per yearfor parent conferences
Participates in three parent conferences a year
Develops and adapts lesson plans to individualstudent needs
Assumes direct responsibility for studentsduring school hours
Plans and directs activities for the TeachingAssistant
Trains and coaches Teaching Assistant instrategies and activities when working with children with hearing loss aged 18months 6 years old
Work Activities
LessonPlanning and Data Tracking
oTurns in lessons and notes weekly using formaland informal assessments to select appropriate academic targets aligned withMWS Scope and Sequence
oKeeps adequate data uptodate data on eachstudent in the areas of language listening developmental and academic skills
oDemonstrates thorough knowledge of each childshearing and intervention history
oWith inhouse training demonstrates mastery ofall MWS language curriculum and assessments
oWith inhouse training is able to review andunderstand all MWS developmental and academic curriculum and assessments
ParentCommunication
oCommunicates with parents regarding student behaviorprogress in class and items needed for school
oContact parents via phone Brightwheel or emailin the event of a child emergency illness other related issue
StudentSupervision and Daily Needs
oMaintains active watch of students when on dutyduring class time lunch transitions recess etc.
oCompletes daily amplification checks of studentequipment and troubleshoots accordingly
oSupervises bathroom needs and provides toiletingassistance as needed including but not limited to diapering and changingsoiled clothes etc.
oAdminister minor first aid and CPR when needed
oAdminister student medication when needed withconsent from parents
ProfessionalResponsibilities
oParticipates in teacher meetings all staffmeetings and other meetings as assigned
oMaintains a Texas teaching certificate in DeafEducation
oCompletes 24 hours of training per year forChild Care Regulation
oCollaborates with Teaching Assistant to create aclassroom plan and select specific Teaching Assistant duties
oMeets weekly with Teaching Assistant to review anddiscuss student progress classroom performance and upcoming lesson plans
OtherResponsibilities
oCoordinates activities of volunteers andsubstitutes assigned to the classroom
oAttend field trips and other school functionsthroughout the year
Physical Demands
Stand three hours a day; walk 10000 steps a day; sit in low chairs andon the floor; hear; speak clearly; able to bend over; reach with hands andarms; able to lift or move 20pound boxes or furniture; able to lift and carrya 50pound child; able to control a child with aggressive behaviors; able toactively participate in outdoor events including in extreme temperatures
Education and ExperienceRequirements
Masters Level degree in Deaf Education EarlyChildhood Education or related field
1 year practicum or student teaching experience
An understanding of child development oral deafeducation speechlanguage pathology and audiology
Philosophical agreement with and commitment tothe mission of THI

Organizational skills classroom management composure in stressfulsituations patience when handling children diagnostic teaching skillsflexibility during schedule changes and special events
Basic Competencies
