Job Description:

The Fannie Angelos Program for Academic Excellence of the University of Baltimore School of Law (the Program) is a nationallyrecognized partnership with Marylands Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs). The Program finds talented HBCU undergraduates and supports them from LSAT preparation through their legal education and into their legal careers. The Program has had a significant impact on both students and the legal community at large.

The Program Manager under the direction of the Faculty Director and in close collaboration with the Programs small leadership team will enable the Program to achieve programmatic goals and ensure student success by assisting with development of and implementing many needed programs and initiatives. The role also mentors and advises applicants and students providing crisis intervention support as needed.

Program Development and Implementation: Internal

Initiatives and programs that the employee will assist to develop and have primary responsibility to implement will include:

  • Creation and implementation of a system to regularize meetings with both LSAT takers and UBalt Law students;

  • Creation and implementation of plans to best assist LSAT retakers and bar exam takers;

  • Engage in developing efforts to improve mentoring for entering 1Ls (Fall) and Scholars (Spring;

  • Coordinate with the Law Career Development Office (LCDO) and other partners to best support Program job seekers;

  • Plan and implement boot camp LSAT prep and other regular programs;

  • Assist to develop comprehensive plan for helping Scholars and students with time management financial planning mental health and racial trauma partnering with the Office of Student Affairs;

  • Work with law school and University partners to increase fundraising opportunities and participate in longrange planning to ensure the continued financial health of the Program;

  • Successful support for participants in every stage of academic and career development (including LSAT testers and retesters law students including secondcareer and parttime students bar takers recent graduates and alumni);

  • Manage programs to connect students with financial scholarship opportunities and employment opportunities made known through other law school departments Program alumni and independent research;

  • Longrange financial planning for the Program;

  • Operational and administrative efficiency including communications systems for inform

Program Development and Implementation: External

Initiatives and programs that the employee will assist to develop and have primary responsibility to implement will include:

  • Reconceptualize and oversee planning and implementation of Annual Gala;

  • Plan for publicity including increased media contacts and identifying awards for which the Program should apply;

  • Create an Advisory Committee with lawyers judges and/or alumni;

  • Develop and implement plan to get graduates engaged in working with the Program (as mentors helping with events etc. working with LCDO and External Relations partners;

  • Review and assist to plan and implement plan/system for communicating with graduates HBCUs friends of the Program i.e. donors and employers) and media;

  • Review and improve social media usage and other methods of publicity so Program can best share news and information about the Program; and

  • Work to best disseminate information about employment opportunities to Program participants and graduates working with LCDO and External Relations;

  • Deeper and broader engagement by alumni in program activities (e.g. alumni engagement in mentoring events employment Advisorytype committee etc.;

  • Building and expanding connections through individual outreach systematic/group outreach (social media) events etc. between the Program and its alumni the broader legal community external partners (e.g. Maryland HBCUs UBalt existing and potential program partners organizations that recognize and promote programs with similar missions other organizations with aligned activities etc..

Student Support

  • Coordinate with the rest of FAP leadership teamand the Office of Student Affairs as needed to strategize and implement best avenues for individualized student support and mentoring.

  • Conduct daytoday applicant and participant support meetings.

  • Mentor and advise applicants and students; identify and help with individual student challenges; in appropriate coordination with the Office of Student Affairs and wider University frameworks assist with crisis intervention support for all program participants.

  • Communicate with the rest of the FAP leadership team and the Office of Student Affairs to coordinate and strategize best avenues for student support in each situation.

  • Facilitate referrals or connect program participants to resources necessary for student success.

  • Generate ideas for and coordinate planning of occasional events for students.

  • Manage prelaw undergraduate student participation in the USM interinstitutional program.

Required Education and Experience

Education: Bachelors degree in education administration public affairs or another related field

Experience: Three years of program management experience.

Demonstrated interest in and commitment to supporting the success of students or other novice/developing professionals.

Experience working with both internal and external constituencies.

Preferred Education and Experience

Education: Juris Doctorate degree

Experience: Five years of experience in program development and implementation and in collective/collaborative problemsolving.

Experience with HBCUs PBIs and/or UBalt highly preferred.

Experience in teaching and/or higher education.

Experience working closely as part of a small leadership team as well as within larger institutional systems.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

Strong writing oral office technology organizational and interpersonal skills. Highly collaborative flexible creative and pragmatic approach to problemsolving that addresses varied goals and interests.
