In order to fulfill our mission we are looking for a dedicated and experienced Veterinarian for our Woodinville WA location.
Purpose of the position
As the Veterinarian for Homeward Pet Adoption Centers (HPAC) you will provide medical care to our clinic patients and provide advice and support to colleagues and volunteers on medically related questions and issues.
You work across departments to ensure shelter animals are given the best possible care and execute your duties in line with the principles and practices of Fear Free Sheltering and Fear Free Veterinary Professional programs.
You help determine adoptability and participates in euthanasia decisions regarding shelter animals and you provide medical care to patients served by HPACs programs offering veterinary care to lowincome families. Additionally you offer training guidance and medical direction to clinic staff and volunteers.
Homeward Pet is a highvolume spay/neuter clinic and you will play an instrumental role in this crucial process. You will also provide medical care to qualified lowincome families. You offer training guidance and medical direction to clinic staff and volunteers.
This role is expected to be carried out onsite. While we are looking for fulltime candidates we will consider parttime applicants as well.
Duties and responsibilities
- Complete wellness and surgical procedures in a competent safe and efficient manner. In coordination with Clinic Manager oversee patient flow to maximize quantity and quality of services provided.
- Participate in regularly scheduled Animal Care Rounds to review status of animals in shelter and foster program.
- Involved in decisionmaking process communication and aftercare for all outcomes for animals including euthanasia.
- Together with Veterinary Medical Director develop and implement clinic protocols.
- Adhere to applicable state and federal laws governing the practice of veterinary medicine.
- Assist with monitoring use of medical supplies and supply requisition; maintain controlled drug logs.
- Input medical notes and surgery records in a timely manner; maintain clean neat and orderly work area.
- Promote the humane care and treatment of animals including the principles and practices of Fear Free.
- Advise and assist with training of clinic staff and volunteers.
- Available by telephone or cellular phone after hours for occasional postsurgical complications or emergencies.
- Collaborate with Animal Care Behavior Intakes Foster and Adoption Program managers and staff to ensure animals are receiving appropriate and effective medical care in all areas.
- Adhere to parameters of approved budget.
- Adhere to the highest ethical standards and provision of veterinary care in a safe competent professional and humane manner including maintaining client and medical confidentiality.
- Perform other related duties as requested.
Required Skills Experience & Education
- Licensed to practice Veterinary Medicine in the State of Washington.
- Certified as Fear Free Shelter Individual Veterinary Professional or able to be certified within 12 months after start.
- Shelter medicine experience preferred.
- Current DEA license preferred.
- Maintain knowledge of current methods and best practices in veterinary care.
- Have working knowledge in the use of behaviorrelated medications.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office suite. PetPoint knowledge preferred.
- Be able to represent HPAC professionally at all times.
