Job Description

Job Purpose: A fulltime faculty is responsible for delivering instruction in various formats (online in person videoconferencing or any combination of methods) in the discipline(s) for which she/he has been employed. Instruction may take place at any of the colleges campuses at a clinical partner facility or at a designated temporary location. Faculty also provide academic advising and facilitate student success. Technology tools are routinely used to communicate with and support students.

Faculty participate in divisional and institutional activities related to the colleges mission engage with communities of interest and promote college programs.

Additionally Veterinary Technology Faculty collaborate with the program director to ensure efficient and effective delivery of careerentry education addition to their faculty responsibilities.

Veterinary Technology Faculty Job Purpose: A fulltime faculty position with responsibility for assisting the Director and delivering instruction in the Veterinary Technology Program

All positions are onsiteinperson unless specifically noted.

This is a 12month term position located on the Columbia Campus.

Essential Functions:

  1. Must be able to deliver instruction and evaluate student learning in all instructional delivery formats offered by the specific department at the college and at any of its teaching locations. Formats include but are not limited to inperson online hybrid live streaming and clinical.
  2. Within a minimum workweek of 37.5 hours faculty are expected to teach a minimum of 15 hours and hold in person and virtual office hours as defined in College Policy.
  3. Maintain an environment conducive to learning.
  4. Be responsible for course and when appropriate laboratory preparation.
  5. Actively participate in curriculum and program development revision and evaluation.
  6. Provide academic advising to students with an emphasis on retention and success.
  7. Remain current in the teaching area(s) through appropriate professional development activities.
  8. Actively participate on divisional and institutional committees.
  9. Collaborate in building and maintaining relationships within and beyond the institution.
  10. Contribute appropriately to pursuit and achievement of program division and institutional mission and strategy.

Additional Veterinary Technology Essential Functions:

  1. Participate in inventory control and purchasing for equipment and supplies.
  2. Contribute to programmatic accreditation through continuous data collection/review and analysis of effectiveness.
  3. Collaborate to recruit maintain and monitor community partnerships

Supplemental Functions:

  1. Actively participate in institutional and as appropriate community activities that support the institutions mission.
  2. Support and follow Columbia States TBR and other applicable policies and guidelines.
  3. Continue to develop professionally.
  4. Utilize technology as a tool for enhancement of operation instruction and services.

Job Specifications

Education Training and Experience Required:

  1. Graduate of an AVMA CVTEA or CVMAaccredited program.
  2. Bachelors degree in veterinary technology or related field with three years infield experience.
  3. Consideration may be given to an Associates degree in veterinary technology or related field with more than three years infield experience.
  4. SPECIALIZED REQUIREMENTS: Tennessee Veterinary Medical Technician license or eligibility to be licensed in Tennessee

Knowledge Skills Abilities and Work Characteristics:

The ability to communicate effectively in written and spoken English and in the language in which the course is taught; the knowledge and/or experience to instruct using a variety of instructional delivery modes; the ability to relate to a diverse faculty staff and student population; the ability to work cooperatively with colleagues and community members; the ability to function effectively as a member of a team.

Working Conditions:

Faculty members are expected to be available for day and evening classes and for assignments at any of the institutions centers or sites. Normal sitting and movement in a classroom and the ability to manipulate and move audiovisual equipment both in the classroom and from one location to another.

Additional Veterinary Technology Working Conditions:

  1. Ability to see hear hold and control animals.
  2. Manual dexterity sufficient to perform laboratory procedures.
  3. Maintain positive relationships and contracts with clinical affiliates.
  4. Normal sitting standing and movement in a classroom laboratory and clinical setting.
  5. Ability to manipulate hold and move equipment both in the classroom/laboratory and from one location to another.
  6. Ability to travel to clinical sites.
  7. Ability to lift at least 40 pounds.
  8. Qualified applicants should be able to reach lift moderate weights manipulate and operate equipment necessary for veterinary medical care.

This is a 12month fulltime faculty position located on the Columbia Campus.
