Job Description
A Transmission Technician is responsible for diagnosing repairing and maintaining transmissions in vehicles. This role requires expertise in identifying transmission issues performing repairs or replacements of faulty components and ensuring the proper functioning of transmission systems.
Responsibilities
- Conduct thorough inspections and diagnostic tests to identify transmission problems including issues with gears clutches torque converters and hydraulic systems. Utilize diagnostic equipment and technical manuals to pinpoint the root cause of transmission malfunctions
- Disassemble clean and inspect transmission components to determine the extent of damage or wear. Perform rebuilds or overhauls of transmissions by replacing worn or damaged parts such as seals gaskets bearings and clutch plates. Assemble transmissions according to manufacturer specifications
- Perform transmission fluid flushes fluid level checks and filter replacements to maintain proper lubrication and cooling of transmission components. Ensure that the correct type and quantity of transmission fluid are used according to vehicle specifications
- Diagnose and repair electrical and electronic components related to transmission systems such as solenoids sensors wiring harnesses and control modules. Use scan tools and diagnostic software to troubleshoot electronic transmission issues
- Document all repairs parts used and diagnostic findings accurately using repair manuals service bulletins and electronic service records. Maintain detailed records to track the history of each transmission repair and facilitate effective communication with other team members
- Perform quality control checks to ensure that transmission repairs meet industry standards and manufacturer specifications. Testdrive vehicles after repairs to verify proper operation of transmission systems and address any remaining issues
- Adhere to safety protocols and procedures to prevent accidents and injuries in the workplace. Handle transmission components and equipment with care to avoid damage and maintain a safe working environment

Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Completion of a certified automotive technology program or apprenticeship
- Previous experience as a transmission technician or related field
- Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills
- Proficiency in using diagnostic equipment and tools specific to transmission repair
- Attention to detail and ability to follow technical instructions
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Physical stamina and dexterity to perform tasks in various weather conditions and tight spaces
- Valid drivers license and clean driving record
- Drug testing required
Qualifications
- ASE (Automotive Service Excellence) certification in transmission repair
- Experience working with different types of transmissions including automatic manual and continuously variable transmissions (CVT)
- Familiarity with transmission rebuilding techniques and procedures
- Knowledge of transmission software updates and programming
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fastpaced automotive repair environment
