Hatch has an opening for an Intermediate Structural Designer in support of its Structural team in Amherst NY. The Intermediate Structural Designer will be part of an engineering team providing engineering services to large and small projects. Responsible for the production of civil structures 3D models and 2D drawings in accordance with project requirements under the supervision of the Lead Civil Structures Designer/Engineer. Participate in a wide range of projects covering civil structures design including but not limited to dams retaining walls site works miscellaneous water retaining structures pump stations. Activities include site investigation steel and concrete modeling of civil structures for both front end planning and the detailed engineering phase for multidiscipline projects.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist the Lead Civil Structural Designer with the delivery of project requirements as they relate to scope quantities cost and schedule
- Coordinate the work of draftspersons in the preparation of contract drawings record keeping and other statistical work
- Produce and maintain technical and engineering drawings using 2D / 3D CAD software as required
- Experience with AutodeskRevit AutodeskCivil 3D and BentleyMicrostastion is a plus
- Perform conceptual layout work
- Develop design details
- Check drawings prior to release
- Ensure coordination with designers and engineers within the discipline and with other disciplines
- Perform clash detection of models with other discipline models
- Participation in formal engineering review processes
- Verify onsite condition and dimensions relating to existing facilities
- Construction supervision dependent upon project demands
- Incorporate safety in design.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Associates Degree or equivalent (civil/structural)
- Minimum 5 years of experience in 2D design and 3D structural modeling with AutodeskAutoCAD software. Experience with AutodeskRevit AutodeskCivil 3D and BentleyMicrostation is a plus
- Experience within a large project multidisciplinary environment
- Knowledge of industry or regulatory standards regulations and codes pertinent to the design and systems related to the project
- Understanding of other discipline requirements
- Good communication and interpersonal skills
- Good safety awareness
- Minimum 7 years of experience in 2D design and 3D structural modeling with AutoDesk software including but not limited to AutodeskAutoCAD AutodeskRevit and AutodeskCivil 3D. Experience with Bentley products (Aecosim Open Building Microstation) is a plus
- Experience with large concrete and steel structures is required
- Experience in the Hydroelectric power industry is preferred
- Must function independently with minimal supervision in a multidiscipline team setting
- Must mentor / assist on the job training of designers
- Must demonstrate strong problem solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot issues
- Must demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a team environment
- Must have excellent written and oral communication skills and the ability to convey project technical information to project managers clients and peers
- Must demonstrate organizational skills and the ability to multitask prioritize take direction and provide direction to others ensuring the quality of deliverables
- Strong computer knowledge is required including Microsoft Office (Word Excel Powerpoint Teams Sharepoint)
