GENERAL SUMMARY/ OVERVIEW STATEMENT:
Under the direction of the Lead Therapist the Staff Radiation Therapist is responsible for delivering radiation therapy treatment as prescribed by the radiation oncologist perform daily maintenance and quality assurance tasks on the equipment and maintain the inventory of department supplies.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Responsible for patient care education and appropriately involves the patient in their
care and care decisions.
2. Monitor patients physical and physiological response to treatment and refer patient for appropriate management when indicated.
3.Demonstrates respect for patients confidentiality modesty and privacy.
4.Administers radiation therapy treatment accurately and safely: monitor and report reactions therapeutic responses and inconsistencies.
5.Positions immobilizes and aligns patients according to the treatment plan and effectively evaluates and solves setup problems.
6.Maintains logs and daily treatment records including accurate documentation of all treatment procedures.
7.Possesses knowledge of all scheduling treatment and billing procedures involving the ARIA system.
8.Understands the function of equipment accessories treatment methods and protocols and applies knowledge appropriately.
9.Works with the Lead Therapist to develop new techniques or resolve clinical problems.
10.Utilizes a quality assurance program to encompass all aspects of treatment delivery and quality patient care.
11.Demonstrates appropriate knowledge of the principles of growth and development from infant through the geriatric stage of life span. In addition s/he must possess the ability to assess patient relative data as deemed pertinent to age specific needs and provide care as described in the departments policy and procedure manual.
12.Adapts contingency plans in response to variables which influence workload and/or schedule.
13.Demonstrates cooperation and is responsive to all staff members.
14.Attends and participates in regularly scheduled Therapist Staff meetings.
15.Attends and participates in regularly scheduled continual education activities.
16.Participates in the clinical instruction and evaluation of the Radiation Therapy Technology
students.
17. Demonstrates cooperation and is responsive to all staff members.

Effectively utilizes problem solving and negotiation skills to manage conflict.
18. Radiation Therapist staff are required to rotate whenever and wherever directed by the Lead or Chief Radiation Therapist.
19. Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE: Must be a graduate of an accredited Radiation Therapy program or equivalent. Bachelors degree preferred.
CERTIFICATION/LICENSURE: Must have a valid Massachusetts license in Radiation Therapy. ARRT certification is preferred.
GUIDELINES FOR PROMOTION: Qualified candidates are considered by the management team at the time of their Performance review. New employees who qualify at the time of their hiring date will be considered upon the successful completion of their probationary period and three month review.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
Works with ionizing radiation as well as cancer patients both adults and children and their families.

SUPERVISES: Clinical Technology Aide and students
assigned to the area.
SPECIAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Lifting patients; lifting and positioning beam directional immobilization and beam modifying devices; positioning and carrying xray film cassettes.
CAREER PATH:
With additional years of experience and additional collegiatelevel education possible advancement to the positions of Senior Radiation Therapist Lead Radiation Therapist Chief Radiation Therapist Clinical Instructor Educational Director or Technical Director.
