Starting Wage: $16.00/hour Closing Date: June 16 2025


Shift/Workdays and Hours:Monday Friday 7:00 a.m. 5:30 p.m.

The City of Manhattan is accepting applications for a KDHE Group Leader for Little Apple Day Camp. The Group Leader will work directly with the Camp Director by implementing a licensed school age program for 185 youth. The selected candidate(s) must be able to attend all inservice training sessions.


This position includes fulltime daytime hours (Monday Friday 7:30 a.m. 5:30 p.m. during the summer camp timeframe). Group Leader duties run from late May to early August with precamp preparation from March to May.


Essential Functions

  • Programs allday activities including life sports arts and crafts games music and outdoor recreational programs.
  • Provides supervision and direction to the children and youth assigned to the group.
  • Supervises group activities during all hours that children and youth are present.
  • Provides supervision and direction to an assistant group leader.
  • Prepares weekly and daily schedules.
  • Maintains records for State of Kansas requirements (attendance vaccine records and physical forms).
  • Notifies the proper agency in the event of an emergency.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Requirements

Required Knowledge Skills & Additional Qualifications

  • High School diploma GED or equivalent.
  • Experience working with schoolage children or schoolage youth.
  • CPR/First Aid Certification (Can be obtained through Parks & Recreation).
  • Selected candidate(s) must pass a KBI background check.
  • Must be 18 years or older.

Preferred Knowledge & Skills

  • Bachelors degree in early childhood elementary education recreation related field or experience that is necessary to achieve certification as a childcare facility director.
  • Experience with special needs campers.

Other Information

  • This is not a KPERS covered position.
  • Seasonal position (March August).
