Job Description

JOB TITLE:Dean of Students
REPORTS:Principal
SALARY:Commensurate with experience and qualifications

Job Summary:

Under the direction of the Principal the Dean of Students serves as an instructional leader in planning coordinating and administrating school activities and programs student conduct attendance athletics and extracurricular programs and supervises assigned personnel.This is a tenmonth position with a salary aligned with the Seaside teacher pay scale.
Minimum Qualifications:
Valid Florida teaching certificate.
Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university.
Familiarity with Conscious Discipline and working towards completing Conscious Discipline training.
Minimum of three years of classroom teaching experience.
Expertise and knowledge in Waldorf education.
Knowledge of Public Waldorf Pedagogy.
Knowledge of child development (PreK12
Knowledge of publicschool requirements.

Essential Functions:

  • Work with the Principal to establish a safe and secure learning environment for students.
  • Assist in MultiTiered System of Support and MT meetings to address behavioral concerns when needed.
  • Develop and administer disciplinary procedures in accordance with theDuval County Public Schools(DCPS)Code of Conduct Seaside Parent and Family Handbook and state laws.
  • Receive referrals and confer with students teachers community agencies and law enforcement.
  • Respond to and resolve parent student and staff concerns and complaints.
  • Plans for emergency situations in collaboration with other administrators staff and public safety agencies.
  • Provide input to the school safety plan.
  • Supervise students on campus.
  • Monitor students during lunch recess passing periods and other activities.
  • Instruct students about inappropriate behavior using Conscious Discipline.
  • Support Administration following the Duval County Code of Conduct.
  • Attend meetings of parents and other groups.
  • Supervise afternoon and evening events.
  • Direct preparation and maintenance for various district county state and federal records and reports.
  • Follow and adhere to the DCPS Student Code of Conduct.
  • Assist teachers with classroom management strategies and systems of support as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge & Abilities:

  • Establish and maintain productive collaborative relationships with others
  • Relate to students with mutual respect while carrying out a positive and effective disciplinary program
  • Modelstatestandards of ethics confidentiality and professionalism
  • Maintain organized work schedule and meet deadlines
  • Operate office equipment including computer with a variety of software related to job requirements
  • Create an environment where children from diverse backgrounds are comfortable and experience success
  • Knowledge and experience with Conscious Discipline
  • Highly skilled in meeting deadlines even when faced with frequent interruptions
  • Maintain consistent punctual and regular attendance
  • Well versed in writing and deliver oral presentations to groups
  • Ability to define problems collect data establish facts and draw valid conclusions
  • Maintain a safe and orderly learning environment
  • Effective interpersonal skills including tact patience and courtesy
  • Ability to build relationships with families

Physical Demands:
Sit walk kneel or stand for extended periods in both indoor and outdoor environments.
Stamina to work a full day supervise evening events or attend meetings.
Work at a desk conference table small student classroom table or in meetings in various configurations.
Kneel bend at the waist and reach overhead above the shoulders and horizontally.
Lifting carrying pushing or pulling moderately heavy objects.
Work Environment:
Most work is performed indoors with occasional outdoor work required. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
