Where you will work
The Augusta mill sits along the Savannah River on the state border between Georgia and South Carolina and manufactures light medium and heavy weight coated paperboard. It is a wellinvested SBS paperboard manufacturing facility with approximately 600 thousand tons of capacity. This facility boasts over 700 employees and has been in operation for almost 65 years. Located on 3000 acres the Augusta site operates two paper machines that produce 1940 tons per day. The Augusta Mill is Clearwater Papers largest paperboard facility and critical to the success of our strategy and future.
Augusta Georgia is a vibrant community along the Georgia/South Carolina border about 150 miles east of Atlanta and 70 miles west of Columbia. What you will do
The Senior Process Control Engineer will support DCS and PLC Systems throughout the mill while working with operations and maintenance teams to optimize productivity and efficiency.
Process Control Systems and Performance Integrity
- Mill SME on PLC systems
- Responsible for leading significant process control related obsolescence projects
- Be involved in the controls design implementation and support of hardware and software systems for mill process equipment i.e. Provox and DeltaV DCS/QCS systems and various PLCs and drives.
- Design construct and implement process control strategies. Maintain functional design specifications for process control systems.
- Support the Reliability/Maintenance team in troubleshooting and optimization of all PLC systems in the mill.
- Support process operations by troubleshooting current systems to improve effectiveness and efficiency.
- Effectively communicate with the operations and maintenance organizations regarding projects and potential impacts.
- Partner with corporate and local capital teams in implementing new equipment to ensure effective and efficient startup.
- Participate in the mill safety program by actively engaging in Crew Led Safety initiatives.
- Backup DCS database and verify restore.
Training
- Determine and attend relevant training to advance personal knowledge in subject areas to benefit process control and optimization.
- Determine training needs and coordinate training classes for employees working with the DCS and PLC Systems.

What you will need
- Bachelors degree in Chemical or Electrical Engineering EET or a related engineering field preferred
- 5 years of relevant process control systems experience required (DCS/PLC)
- Experience with Provox and DeltaV DCS Platforms
- 5 years of operational experience (preferred Pulp and Paper Industry)
- Experience with control system network topology
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
- AutoCAD experience preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively work with vendors managers and production employees to achieve goals.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Must be capable of understanding and troubleshooting complex industrial systems and equipment.
- Understanding ofLEAN manufacturing and Continuous Improvement (CI) concepts preferred
- High speed manufacturing environment sustained exposure to high frequency noises multiple hours standing walking on concrete surfaces
- Personal Protective Equipment required in mill environment.
- Dirt noise odor and temperature extremes.
- Climbing stairs ladders and scaffolding
- Exposure to hazardous chemicals used in manufacturing process
- Rotating OnCall Weekend Duty
