Contract Type: Permanent

Salary: up to 74K and beyond DOE

Hours: 37 hours

This team is committed to the betterment of our environment and making technical advances to help others do the same. We are expanding this team and looking for two Software Developers. This is your opportunity to contribute towards our environment.

As Software Developer Full Stack you will contribute to the development of Rivers and Seas Watch a cuttingedge product that leverages technology to report transparently on storm overflows and water quality information.

You will be contributing with your front and backend expertise within our Clean Rivers and Seas Task Forces customerfacing digital products and services which includes designing and implementing software solutions for our Rivers and Seas Watch service.

Your responsibilities are to include:


FullStack Development: Design develop and maintain software applications across the full technology stack database components to support our public storm overflow and water quality reporting service. (TypeScript React Angular Node.js .NET SQL)

Software Engineering Best Practices: Advocate software engineering best practices including coding standards code reviews testing and documentation working to Southern Waters I.T. approval and regulatory frameworks.

Problem Solving and Innovation: Analyse complex technical problems propose creative solutions and implement them effectively.

Collaboration: Work collaboratively with crossfunctional teams including product owners designers testers researchers designers and technical SMEs to deliver innovative solutions that meet our users and business needs.

Continuous Learning: Southern Water has a growth mindset so you can stay up to date with the latest technologies and trends in software development continuously expanding knowledge and skills.



Skills and experience needed:


Technical Proficiency:

  • Demonstrable experience in fullstack software development.
  • Strong proficiency in frontend technologies (e.g. TypeScript React Angular).
  • Solid expertise in backend technologies (e.g. Node.js .NET) and database systems (e.g. SQL).
  • Experience with cloud platforms (e.g. AWS Azure GCP)
  • Understanding of FME and ESRI ArcGIS Online

Software Engineering Practices:

  • Solid understanding of software development methodologies (e.g. Agile Waterfall).
  • Experience with version control systems (e.g. Git) and testing frameworks.
  • Knowledge of software design patterns and architectural principles.

Agile and Product Team Awareness:

  • Awareness of Agile principles methodologies and ceremonies used in software development.
  • Familiarity with the concept of working within a product team structure.

ProblemSolving and Analytical Skills:

  • Proven ability to analyse complex technical problems and devise effective solutions.
  • Strong debugging and troubleshooting skills.

Communication and Collaboration:

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment and actively contribute to team discussions.
