About the Work Unit
The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) has an opening for an Professional Engineer I with our Region 5 Traffic and Safety team in Durango. The Traffic and Safety team delivers capital traffic and safety engineering projects delivers maintenance projects provides traffic engineering review and support to the local agency and permits unit provides traffic engineering review and support for capital engineering projects and responds to traffic and safety related customer concerns
About the Position
This position is a fullyoperational licensed engineer applying engineering theories principles and standards to the delivery of traffic and safety capital engineering projects and maintenance projects.
Your duties and responsibilitieswill include but are not limited to the following:- Deliver traffic and safety capital engineering projects and maintenance projects.
- Conduct Scoping Field Inspection Review (FIR) and Final Office Review (FOR) meetings.
- Collaborate with regional internal specialty units and maintenance to obtain clearances assure plan set and specification accuracy consistency and compliance with CDOT project delivery.
- Develop design schedules engineer estimates specification packages and construction plan sets using Microstation OpenRoads.
- Design traffic signals intersections Multimodal/ADA signing/striping safety and other highway improvement projects utilizing traffic and safety engineering fundamentals and available guidance.
- Manage consultants for Traffic and Safety project delivery.
- Provide input and make decisions on issues that arise during construction of projects.
- Provide traffic and safety engineering support to the permits unit local agency projects and capital engineering projects.
- Complete construction plan set and specification review from a traffic and safety standpoint.
- Serve as the lead engineer and provide professional engineers stamp on plans and specs for traffic related plan sheets as needed.
- Inspect contractors equipment materials workmanship and products to ensure they are in conformance with contracts plans and specifications and maintain related documentation.
- Respond to customer service calls through researching crash data existing roadway conditions and providing the findings to the public.
- Other duties as assigned.
Work Environment:- Your schedule will be primarily Monday Friday with opportunity for a flexible schedule.
- After a training period you may work a hybrid schedule with a combination of inoffice and remote work.
- Regular travel required during work hours for project related activities site visits meetings trainings and conference attendance.
- Overnight travel throughout Colorado to projects throughout the Region and meetings.
- Required to work outside in all weather conditions in close proximity to moving traffic and over variable terrain.
- Required to operate CDOT vehicles

Minimum Qualifications
- Current valid licensure as a Professional Engineer from the Colorado State Board of Licensure for Architects Professional Engineers and Professional Land Surveyors.
OR- Current valid licensure as a Professional Engineer from another U.S. states Board of Licensure. If meeting qualifications with an outofstate PE license it would be a condition of employment to obtain your Colorado PE license within six months of hire.

- A current valid drivers license is required for all Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) positions which require operating a state or personal motor vehicle to perform one or more essential functions of the position.

Preferred Qualifications
Theexceptional applicantwill possess the proven ability or accomplishment in the following:- Demonstrated success with the duties listed in the Description of the Job section.
- Years of State service experience related to the duties of this position.
- Highest work/personal ethics and integrity.
- Knowledge of engineering processes theories laws principles conceptual models and best practices.
- At least 35 years of knowledge and experience in civil or transportation engineering design and/or construction.
- Knowledge of the National Environmental Policy Act Planning and Environmental Linkages and how these affect transportation construction projects.
- Knowledge and experience with the CDOT Design Manual AASHTO Design Guides CDOT Planning and Environmental Linkages Manual CDOT Materials Manual CDOT Project Development Manual CDOT Standards & Specifications Manual CDOT M&S Standards CDOT Construction Manual MUTCD Public RightsofWay Accessibility Guidelines (PROWAG) and other industry design standards.
- Ability to mentor train and lead nonprofessional staff.
- Ability to oversee consultants and contractors.
- Proven ability to manage multiple assignments priorities and projects in a demanding environment.
- Ability to work under tight budgets and deadlines and be adaptable to changing assignments.
- Ability to take initiative to solve problems in an innovative manner.
