Job Description

Greenbush The Education Service Center is seeking applications for Substitute Sign Language Interpreters.

Equal Opportunity Employer. Must have the legal ability to work in the United States without sponsorship.

Job Summary: To provide sign language interpreting in an educational setting that facilitates the communication needs of assigned student. In order to respond to the individual needs and abilities of students the substitute teacher must work closely with other Greenbush staff.

Valid drivers license required for employment. REAL ID is required if air travel is necessary to complete job duties.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required:

1. EIPA Certification (or national equivalent)
2. Relevant sign language interpreting experience.
3. Knowledge of relevant technology.

Preferred:

1. EIPA of 3.5 or higher
2. Educational SLI experience

RESPONSIBILITIES

Essential Functions:

1. Implement effective sign language translation and interpreting communication.
2. Motivate students through effective communications and evaluative responses.
3. Demonstrate awareness of the needs of students and provide for individual differences.
4. Set high expectations for student achievement and behavior.
5. Establish and maintain a positive climate for learning through appropriate classroom management.
6. Demonstrate effective interpersonal relationships with others.
7. Facilitate the personal social and intellectual development of students.
8. Maintain confidentiality as defined by the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).
9. Observe Service Center policies during all activities.

General Responsibilities:
1. Maintain timely documentation.
2. Support the mission goals and objectives of the SEKESC.
3. Demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills.
4. Maintain strict confidentiality as outlined by FERPA and HIPAA.
5. Ability to work alone and in groups to provide services.
6. Maintain professional relationships with families.
7. Assume responsibility for individual professional growth by staying current with literature research and/or practices.
8. Demonstrate proficiency in ability to effectively and regularly communicate with other employees of the SEKESC and constituents.
9. Complete all assignments in a timely manner including communication with other staff and families.
10. Follow all safety requirements as directed by the SEKESC.
11. Regular and predictive attendance in designated work location as determined by the Executive Director or designee.
12. Perform other duties as assigned by the Executive Director or designee.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
1. Lifting up to 40 pounds.
2. Manage all job duties with mobility agility and dexterity.
3. Sit/stand for long periods of time.
4. Work in loud/stressful environments.
5. Ability to drive in varying weather and geographical conditions.
6. Being exposed to infectious and contagious diseases.
7. Being exposed to hazardous materials.
8. Being exposed to work settings that offer a risk to personal security and that are not ADA compliant.

Additional physical requirements specific to job duty:
1. Requires prolonged sitting or standing.
2. Manages all job duties with mobility agility and dexterity
3. Occasional lifting of students up to 1/3 of your body weight or a maximum of 40 lbs. and assisting with lifting of student over 40 lbs.
4. Frequent stooping bending kneeling turning and reaching.
