Job Description

Summary of the Assistant Principal Position

The Elementary Assistant Principal will play a pivotal role in providing Santa Fe South Saints with a strong elementary foundation for their education. The Assistant Principal will lead efforts to ensure students demonstrate readiness for upper elementary or middle school while engaging families to establish a partnership between home and school that will continue to grow through high school graduation. This is an instructional leadership role that contributes to the improvement of student achievement by building teacher capacity through the development of content knowledge and researchbased practice in collaboration with the Elementary (PK5 Site Leader and Academic Team. The Assistant Principal will work with teachers to analyze databased student needs and current teacher practice to set performance and development goals. Common coaching activities will include modeling coplanning coteaching observation/feedback and conferencing with teachers. In addition the Assistant Principal will work alongside site and district leadership teams to drive student results while keeping lines of sight at various levels.

Major Responsibilities and Duties

  • Instructional Leadership
    • Collaborate with teachers and staff to establish high academic expectations and provide ongoing support to ensure student success.
    • Monitor student progress closely identify areas for improvement and implement interventions as needed to support struggling students.
    • Collaborate with content coaches to support the goals of freshman academy through the lens of teacher development.
    • Respond to data in order to meet academic goals.
  • Structural Development
    • Design and implement a comprehensive structure for the Freshman Academy that promotes a sense of belonging and accountability among students.
    • Establish clear routines procedures and expectations to create a structured learning environment conducive to academic growth.
    • Develop systems for tracking and addressing attendance behavior and academic performance ensuring a proactive approach to student support and discipline.
  • Nurturing Environment
    • Foster a culture of care and support within the Freshman Academy prioritizing the socialemotional wellbeing of students.
    • Implement strategies to build positive relationships among students teachers and staff creating a supportive community where students feel valued and respected.
    • Provide opportunities for mentorship counseling and other support services to address the diverse needs of students and promote holistic development.
  • Rigorous Curriculum and Instructional Methods
    • Coordinate with content coaches to support implementation of academic programs tailored to the needs of freshmen emphasizing both foundational skills and advanced learning opportunities.
    • Collaborate with Academic Team and site instructional leaders to increase academic rigor within the Freshman Academy aligning curriculum standards with college and career readiness expectations focusing on the ACT.
    • Provide professional development opportunities to support teachers in engaging students in rigorous instructional routine and practices that promote critical thinking and problemsolving skills.
    • Collaborate with content coaches to develop cross curricular initiatives that support the goals of freshman academy
  • Parent Communication and Engagement
    • Establish open lines of communication with parents and families ensuring they are informed and involved in their childs academic and personal development.
    • Implement regular communication strategies such as newsletters parentteacher conferences and workshops to keep parents informed of student progress school events and available resources.
    • Collaborate with community organizations and stakeholders to create opportunities for parental involvement in school activities and decisionmaking processes.
