Safety sustainability and economic development are the hallmarks of the Montgomery County Department of Permitting Services (DPS). The department issues approximately 40000 building permits a year and conducts thousands of inspections by local code officials. With a staff of about 240 employees DPS five divisions include: commercial building construction; customer support and outreach; land development; residential construction and fire code compliance; and zoning and code compliance. WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR
TheDivision of Land Developmentis seeking someone with a construction background in sediment control or stormwater management to join the inspections team as aPermitting and Code Compliance Inspector III.
This position may be underfilled as aPermitting and Code Compliance Inspector II Grade 21 orPermitting and Code Compliance Inspector I Grade 19. Once the employee is at full performance and meets the minimum requirements of the position they are eligible for the noncompetitive promotion through the series to thePermitting and Code Compliance Inspector III Grade 23.
The expected salary ranges for this role on hire are:
Permitting and Code Compliance Inspector I: $63050 $77848
Permitting and Code Compliance Inspector II: $68501 $97128
Permitting and Code Compliance Inspector III: $74507 $112751
Perform site inspections of sediment control measures grading drainage and stormwater management facilities in accordance with the approved plan and applicable laws codes and regulations; inspections of construction activities within the protection of floodplains wetlands tree canopy and tree preservation.
This position REQUIRES the possession of a valid drivers license from the applicants state of residence and the ability to drive a County vehicle to attend meetings transport materials or perform work at locations outside the office which include locations throughout Montgomery County.
ALL LEVELS required Drivers License: Possession and maintenance at all times of a valid Class C (or equivalent) drivers license from the applicants state of residence.
If filled atPermitting & Code Compliance Inspector III Grade 23
Education and Experience: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelors degree in an appropriate engineering technical or professional field such as Civil Engineering Soil Science Environmental Science or Construction Management and three 3 years of experience in drainage design and control roadway construction management sediment control and/or stormwater management of which one year must have been in a code compliance/enforcement capacity.
Or
Graduation from high school or High School Certificate of completion recognized in the State of Maryland and seven 7 years of experience in drainage design and control and roadway construction management of which one year must have been in a code compliance/enforcement capacity.
Equivalency: An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted.
Certifications: The Department of Permitting Services maintains a listing of current Departmentrequired certifications for employees classified at the Permitting and Code Compliance Inspector III level. The required certifications for this level are listed below:
If underfilled atPermitting & Code Compliance Inspector II Grade 21:
Education: Completion of high school or possession of a High School Certification of Completion recognized by the State of Maryland. A bachelors degree in an appropriate field as shown above is preferred for all positions. For applicants possessing an appropriate degree the experience requirement may be reduced to two years instead of five.
Experience: Five 5 years experience in a technical/professional field appropriate to drainage design and control roadway construction management sediment control and/or stormwater management. At least one 1 year of experience should be in a code compliance/enforcement capacity.
Equivalency: An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted.
If underfilled at thePermitting & Code Compliance Inspector I Grade 19:
Education: Completion of high school or possession of a High School Certification of Completion recognized by the State of Maryland. A bachelors degree in an appropriate field as shown above is preferred for all positions. For applicants possessing a degree in an appropriate area the experience requirement may be reduced to one 1 year instead of three 3 years.
Experience: Three 3 years experience in a technical/professional field appropriate to drainage design and control roadway construction management sediment control and/or stormwater management. At least one 1 year of experience should be in a code compliance/enforcement capacity.
Equivalency: An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted.
