Description

North Greenville University is a teaching university of the South Carolina Baptist Convention and is a tobacco and alcoholfree campus. All NGU professors are expected to be orthodox Christians who have a strong personal faith are role models in their piety and ethics are regularly reflecting upon how their faith influences their discipline and are willing and able to mentor students in their own relationship with Jesus Christ. Faculty are expected to:

  • Teach in accordance with and not contrary to the Baptist Faith and Message 2000.
  • Teach in accordance with and not contrary to the universitys Statement on Human Flourishing.
  • Abide by the employee and faculty handbooks including community standard agreements.

Candidates must have a Christian commitment and the ability to integrate the Christian faith with traditional coursework.

Position Summary: The Cline School of Music of North Greenville University is seeking a Director of Athletic Bands Professor of Music and School of Music Recruiter.

General faculty responsibilities include teaching student advising committee assignments and other responsibilities assigned by the Associate Dean.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Director of Athletic Bands:

  • Direct Coordinate and Maintain all activities pertaining to the NGU Marching Band and the NGU Basketball Pep Band.
  • Recruit on and off campus for Cline School of Music and all athletic bands.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned by the Associate Dean of the Cline School of Music dependent upon department needs and the applicants expertise.

Recruiter:

  • Establish active working relationships with high school directors throughout the region and state to recruit and maintain enrollment for the School of Music and the athletic band program.
  • Work closely with all School of Music faculty and the Admissions Office in recruiting efforts.
  • Attend regional music meetings college days and any other applicable events for recruiting.
  • Be an active member of musical organizations in the community around the state and in the southeast region of the United States.

Music Professor:

  • Depending on qualifications some flexibility exists in areas beyond the athletic band responsibilities to complete the fulltime teaching load. Music Education Music Theory Conducting Jazz Band Music Technology and others are among the possibilities.

    Physical Requirements

  • Visual Abilities: Read reports create presentations and use a computer system.
  • Hearing: Hear well enough to communicate with coworkers and students.
  • Dexterity Grasping Feeling Write type and use the telephone copier and computer systems.
  • Mobility: Actively conduct marching rehearsals; move between departments and attend meetings across campus.
  • Talking: Frequently convey detailed or important instructions and ideas accurately loudly or quickly.
  • Cognitive/Emotional: Ability to critically think and concentrate.

WORKING RELATIONSHIPS

This position is a fulltime position in Cline School of Music with special responsibilities to the Office of Admissions. The position reports on certain matters to both the Associate Dean of the Cline School of Music and to the Director of Admissions.

WORK SCHEDULE

The general university schedule is Monday through Thursday 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Friday 8:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. Summer hours may vary. Office hours are subject to change as deemed necessary. Occasional work on Saturdays and evenings may be required.

TRAVEL

Some travel will be required for recruiting ensemble performances conferences and etcetera as needed.

Qualifications

  • Masters degree in music with significant professional experience required.
  • Evidence of successful teaching and conducting marching bands at the secondary and/or college level.
  • Evidence of leadership excellence within the school community and the profession.
  • Evidence of successful recruitment and retention of students in instrumental programs.
