Under the direct supervision of the Practice Manager the Medical Assistant is responsible for assisting the healthcare team with the care and management of patients prior to and during their visit. The Medical Assistant will perform routine administrative and clinical tasks to maintain and support the office and to assure efficient patient flow through the office. The Medical Assistant will also assist the physician or other licensed clinical staff with point of care testing specimen collection education and communication to patients.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Greets and escorts patients into exam rooms.
Assists patients with ambulation to assure their comfort and dignity during exam.
As instructed documents reason for patient visit on intake form to be given directly to physician.
Obtains vital signs (blood pressure pulse temperature) weight and height.
Flags issues needing immediate response.
Sets ups cleans and stocks patient exam rooms.
Cleans/sterilizes instruments.
Check refrigerator temperature daily and document results on log.
Tracksorders transports and maintains supplies.
Answers phone takes messages and notifies medical staff appropriately.
May schedule/confirm appointments.
Ensures that data information sheets are prepared progress notes stamped and place in patient file.
Assists with procuring medical records from Health Info. Mgmt. and/or Xray results.
Monitors the maintenance of the practices sanitation and overall appearance.
Assists practice secretaries in handling bump/cancellation lists.
Takes and records copays from patients.
Arranges ambulance transportation as needed.
Sorts/distributes lab results daily to appropriate physician/nurse practitioner.
Assists in the collection labeling and processing of specimens.
SKILLS/ABILITIES/COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:
1.Graduate of an approved Medical Assistant certification program or 6 months to a year relevant clinical experience in a healthcare setting or currently enrolled in a nursing allied health or clinical program.
2.Must be OSHA CLIA and HIPAA knowledgeable.
3.May not currently hold a valid nursing license.
