Idaho National Laboratory is hiring a Fire Protection System Engineer to work in our Facilities and Site Services (F&SS) organization. Our team works a 9x80 schedule located out of our Research and Education Campus with every other Friday off.
You will support the Fire Protection Engineering efforts of the Idaho National Laboratory. You will report directly to the manager of the Facility System Engineering and Engineering Support department.
Responsibilities Include:
- Provide a broad level of support to facilities across the INL campus.
- Provide detailed fire protection engineering design reviews of plans and specifications for inhouse or offsite design efforts and technical review of contractor drawings and equipment submittals of fire protection systems.
- Provide detailed designs of fire protection system modifications.
- Evaluate assigned fire protection systems to determine systems meet the minimum design standards and code requirements.
- Ensure DOE orders and standards are being followed in nuclear and nonnuclear facilities and structures and ensure National Fire Protection Association International Building Codes International Fire Codes Idaho Codes and City codes as applicable are met and work with state city and DOE officials.
- Determine and develop approaches to addressing deficiencies with creative and practical solutions.
- Conduct fire protection engineering surveys and prepare corrective actions or suggested improvement reports for fire protection deficiencies including cost estimates.
- Review work control documents to ensure appropriate incorporation of proven Fire Protection theories and principles required for hazard mitigation controls.
- Review work organizations broad base of design activities for new or modified systems structures and components to ensure fire protection related criteria is identified and included in design criteria documents incorporated in designs and substantially verified.
- Review work control documentation and walk downs to ensure safe and appropriate completion of inspection testing and maintenance of fire protection systems and equipment.
- Develop a working relationship with Life Safety Systems group and other discipline interfaces.
- Help develop various budgets as they pertain to fire protection equipment and projects.
Minimum Requirements:
- Level 2: Bachelors degree in a technical field and 2 years of relevant experience or an advance degree in a technical field.
- Level 3: Bachelors degree and 5 years of relevant experience or and advanced degree and 2 years of relevant experience.
- This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy L clearance which requires US Citizenship.
