Wastewater Collections Division (WCD) is seeking an ambitious Plant Mechanic III to join a diverse group of mechanics in operating maintaining and repairing the countys wastewater pumping stations.
WCD manages and operates Fairfax Countys wastewater collection system consisting of nearly 3400 miles of pipe over 100000 associated structures 57 metering sites and 70 pumping stations. WCDs organization includes approximately 140 sanitary sewer maintenance specialists and administrative support team members including heavy equipment operators instrumentation technicians industrial electricians plant mechanics administrative professionals and professional engineers.
Key Responsibilities include:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Any combination of education training and experience equivalent to the following: Graduation from high school or a GED issued by a state department of education or completion of a registered apprenticeship program plus five years of experience in the maintenance and repair of pumps motors and other wastewater equipment.
CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIRED:
A valid drivers license.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background check a preemployment physical examination and driving record check to the satisfaction of the employer.
Subject to 24 hour call back and must therefore be able to work emergency overtime. Subject to working in adverse weather conditions and may be exposed to raw waste or environments generating methane gas.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
At least four years of experience in the following:
