Job Description
Are you passionate about working on a small impactful team where your contributions directly influence mission success Do you thrive on developing applications that leverage highvalue data for critical insights NS2 Mission is looking for a highly motivated selfdriven Data Scientist to join our team in Northern Virginia. Your work will involve creating innovative data solutions enhancing workflows and unlocking the potential of complex datasets.
This position involves a variety of responsibilities including quality assurance of data feeds providing support for data triage and enhancing data collection and analysis workflows. The ideal candidate will have strong Python programming skills and a proven track record of working with both structured and unstructured data in various tools and platforms.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform endtoend quality assurance of data feeds and datasets.
- Support data triage and assessment activities.
- Identify and document opportunities to improve workflows and systems.
- Participate in regular standup meetings and provide input during code reviews.
- Crosstrain on existing data collection tools.
- Build monitor and report on data systems (e.g. dashboards).
- Research and document options for collecting and aggregating data from various web and internal platforms.
- Evaluate webbased platforms for access control features and make recommendations for data acquisition.
- Develop and maintain Pythonbased scripts for data collection processing and system enhancement.
- Automate data cleanup conditioning management and dissemination processes.
- Collaborate on new use case development and provide datadriven insights.
Required Skills and Experience:
- Strong experience programming in Python.
- Proficiency working with both structured and unstructured data (e.g. MS Excel).
- Experience with database tools (e.g. SQL Presto) and data lakes (e.g. S3.
- Experience building data visualizations and dashboards with tools such as Elasticsearch Kibana Tableau Apache Superset or PowerBI.
- Ability to translate complex technical findings into clear easily understood reports visuals or presentations.
- Experience formulating analytic requirements evaluating results and communicating findings to stakeholders.
- Ability to work collaboratively accept feedback and develop customertailored data solutions.
Highly Desired Skills and Experience:
- Experience with AI/ML particularly natural language processing in a production setting.
- Expertise in statistical modeling hypothesis testing and inferential statistics.
- Familiarity with data management tools like Hadoop MapReduce or similar.
- Handson experience with Apache Zeppelin Jupyter Notebooks and Spark/PySpark.
- Proficiency in MS Visual Basic for Applications (VBA).
- Background in supporting traditional and commercial targeting efforts.
- Programming experience in R.
