Calendar Description
Teacher candidates develop awareness and best practice for the diversity of students in secondary schools including cultural ethnic gender sexual orientation religion and socioeconomic diversity. Through discussion teacher candidates reflect upon societal concerns including bullying racism homophobia and sexism. Teacher candidates develop strategies aimed at creating inclusive and safe learning environments for all learners. Issues of particular concern for trades and technology and STEM learning environments are addressed.
A Bachelor of Education is required
A Master of Education is required
Recent experience as a K12 teacher strongly preferred and three years full time classroom experience is required
Advanced knowledge of the subject area is required
Experience and excellent understanding of child development and how this relates to elementary or secondary schools is required
Previous successful postsecondary school teaching experience is preferred
Excellent organizational interpersonal and communication skills is required
Proven skills in building intercultural understanding empathy and mutual respect are required
Demonstrated experience in integrating Aboriginal knowledge and teaching methods (TRC CA 62 is required
Proven skills in building student capacity for intercultural understanding empathy and mutual respect (TRC CA 63 is required
Teaching excellence including developing culturally appropriate curricula (TRC CA10 is required
