You will be updated with latest job alerts via emailThe Department of Astronomy is seeking a postdoctoral scholar to collaborate on nearfield cosmology and Galactic dynamics. Areas of possible collaboration include studying populations of tidal remnants in observations and/or simulations and preparing for and using data from the Rubin Observatory LSST to study the Milky Way and the nature of dark matter. The successful candidate will have substantial freedom to work on independent projects related to nearfield cosmology and Galactic dynamics. As a member of UW Astronomy the successful candidate will also have access to our large share of the Apache Point Observatory 3.5m to the Zwicky Transient Facility and LSST department computing resources on a UW supercomputer and to the expertise in Astronomys Data Intensive Research in Astrophysics & Cosmology (DIRAC) center and UWs eScience program.
Appointments are 100 FTE for 24 months renewable for anadditional 12 monthssubject to approval and availability of funding. The base salary range for this position is $5705$6167 per month commensurate with experience and qualifications or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination. Postdoctoral scholars are represented by UAW 4121 and are subject to the collective bargaining agreement unless agreed exclusion criteria apply. Minimum Qualifications: PhD in Astronomy Physics or closely related field.Applicants are required to have a PhD or foreign equivalent by the starting date.
Desired Qualifications: Theoretical or observational expertise in nearfield cosmology or Galactic dynamics
