Job Description

Provide evaluation and intervention services for Boys Town National Research Hospital (BTNRH) patients clients served through our outpatient clinics and students in schoolbased services who have hearing loss or disorders of communication feeding or swallowing.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:

  • Provides evaluations of auditory communication developmental and academic skills for infants children and adults with hearing loss or disorders of communication feeding or swallowing.

  • Provides direct and consultative developmentally appropriate habilitative and rehabilitative treatment services to patients served in the acute care unit intensive care unit craniofacial clinical unit psychiatric unit and outpatient clinics in the domains for speech language cognition voice feeding and swallowing.

  • Consults with medical dietary clinical educational personnel families and other staff including officers from other agencies as needed to ensure excellence in patient care.

  • Assists in recruitment design or implementation of selected clinical research projects.

  • Prepares and maintains reports/records on patients clients and students.

  • Participates in the development and implementation of training programs/materials for families and professionals.

  • Participates in mentorship of graduate students and clinical fellows in the area of assessment and intervention for individuals who are deaf or hard of hearing or who have disorders affecting communication language feeding and swallowing.

  • Assists with identified quality improvement initiatives by monitoring records of individuals served in clinical and educational programs.

  • Provides patient care and education according to the patient population served.

    KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

    • Ability to apply knowledge in the area of normal auditory speechlanguage feeding and swallowing development to diagnose and treat speechlanguage voice and range of craniofacial hearing and communication disorders.

    • As related to job assignment ability to operate equipment to determine level of feeding/swallowing function and measure speech production for children with cleft palate and/or craniofacial anomalies.

    • As related to job assignment knowledge of pediatric airway craniofacial and feedingswallowing disorders.

    • As related to job assignment ability to apply knowledge in the area of development hearing disorders amplification and hearing technology systems.

    • Ability to apply knowledge to family systems.

    • Ability to apply knowledge and understanding of a variety of approaches to assessment and intervention with infants children and adults with hearing and communication disorders.

    • Ability to establish and maintain an environment that encourages teamwork interdependence communication and ethical actions.

    • Ability to communicate clearly orally and in writing.

    • As related to job assignment ability to communicate and/or develop proficient sign language skill.

    • Ability to use equipment such as hearing technology personal computers and assistive/adaptive devices that support communication development.

    • Ability to function independently as a professional with general supervision.

    REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Masters of Science or Master of Art degree in Speech/Language Pathology required.

    • Possession of or eligibility for appropriate state licensing required.

    • Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC) from the American SpeechLanguageHearing Association (ASHA) required.

    • Minimum of 1 year post Clinical Fellowship Year experience in a multidisciplinary medical or integrative clinical setting with patients who have speech language craniofacial feeding swallowing or hearing disorders required.

    • Flexibility to provide oncall (continuously or rotationally) support including evening weekend or holiday work if needed required.
