POSITION DESCRIPTION
To inspect lubricate service wash and fuel district buses and other vehicles and equipment to repair or replace upholstery window glass and tires; and to assist mechanics in semiskilled maintenance and mechanical repair work. To make daily weekly and annual inspections of all district owned vehicles and maintenance in order to ensure a minimum of road failures and a maximum of safe and economical operations in conformity with local county state and federal requirements.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Ability to attain a Commercial Driver License with B vehicle designation passenger endorsement and air brakes
Shall meet state requirements for appropriate licensing
Shall pass a manual skills test
Shall furnish own tools
Shall possess a working knowledge of operations of shop equipment
Applicant must be in good health and able to lift 45 lbs. unassisted on an everyday basis
Shall be knowledgeable and experienced in the procedures of preventative maintenance for under the hood inspections for all district vehicles
Applicant must be able to perform duties with minimum supervision
Must possess one certification in heavyduty truck or school bus; for brakes a second certification in heavyduty truck or school within a year
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
To maintain safe vehicle operating conditions and assist mechanics with routine servicing of district vehicles and equipment
Assist in performing semiskilled service of district buses including changing oil and filters lubricating flushing radiators adjusting brakes etc. as part of preventative maintenance program
Inspect and replace motor belts hoses automotive lamps windshield wipers brake lining etc. as needed
Fuel and refuel buses and other vehicles maintaining appropriate records as required
Replaces window glass headlights and mirrors; replaces and secures seats; replaces flooring materials in school buses
Maintain brake steering radiator transmission and other fluid levels and add as needed.
Inspects repairs changes and balances tires
Washes fills and/or changes batteries.
Tightens and/or adjusts various parts
Performs routine safety checks on buses and other vehicles and equipment reporting major problems to appropriate authority
Washes and cleans buses and other district vehicles and equipment. Assists with the diagnosis and verification of mechanical problems and refers to mechanics on nonroutine or major repairs
Assists mechanics in performing routine maintenance and repair work
Operates school buses and other automotive equipment as needed
Perform under hood inspections and maintain fluid level service as needed and required
Operate and maintain automatic vehicle washer to wash and clean all district vehicles
Steam clean engine and parts as needed
Fully maintain the working area to promote the maximum efficiency and safety of that work area This includes the cleaning of catch basins in the wash bay area on a weekly basis
Assist in road service calls
Establish favorable working relationships with garage personnel driving staff management and total school staff
Shall achieve selfimprovement by attending training sessions inservice and workshops conducted by Huron Valley Schools or other approved agencies
Shall be flexible in working hours as pertaining to State Police inspection inclement weather days and manpower shortage
Shall be able to operate all types of district owned vehicles
Keep accurate records and reports as required submit in a legible condition and turn in at the specified time
Familiar with the geographical service area of the school district
Conduct yourself as a professional Huron Valley staff member at all times
Other duties as required
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:High School diploma and/or related experience.
LANGUAGE MATHEMATICAL AND REASONING SKILLS:Ability to speak and write effectively.Ability to apply mathematical concepts to practical situations.Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written or oral format and deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
