We are looking for a Student Nurse Fetal Alcohol Syndrome Disorder (FASD) for a CoOp/Placement opportunity starting Spring 2025. As a Student Nurse youll help facilitate assessments and review clinical collateral to support diagnosis of adults with FASD alongside the FASD RN Coordinator and consulting psychologist. Youll collaborate to develop and promote a bestpractice FASD framework that includes screening assessment diagnosis and system navigation for adults to improve client outcomes awareness of FASD and understanding of supports in the Central region and follow up with clients participating in the program.


Status:Unpaid Student Placement/CoOp starting Spring 2025; this is geared towards students who are required to complete a minimum of 300 placement/coop hours
Location:
This position is based out ofHurontario Street Brampton On.Although we operate within a hybrid workplace model students may be required to have onsite and/or community presence as per program and client needs.


What you will do:

  • Assist the multidisciplinary team in coordinating assessments and reviewing previous evaluations.
  • Help strengthen collaboration between service providers and improve case coordination for adults with FASD.
  • Support the development and promotion of a best practice FASD framework that includes screening assessment and navigation.
  • Participate in reviewing referrals and conducting preliminary screening assessments for eligibility.
  • Interview caregivers/families individuals involved in the individuals life gather prior assessments and records.
  • Contribute to assessments needed for diagnosis: Assessments include: using software to perform facial measurements testing for reflexes review medications and complete/contribute to final report writing.
  • Ensure that followup recommendations are appropriately coordinated and communicated.
  • Identify and maintain a list of resources and community supports for adults with FASD.
  • Identify and address gaps in service and develop a proactive approach.


What you need to join our Team:

  • Currently enrolled in a Bachelors degree in Nursing (BScN)
  • Current CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain) is an asset
  • Understanding of FASD mental health concurrent disorders and/or dual diagnosis is an asset.
  • Experience working in a clinic setting an asset
  • Experience in integrating health and mental health clinical work an asset
  • Excellent skills in building and maintaining positive relationships with a team stakeholders and community partners
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Recovery Principles an asset
  • Satisfactory police records search and vulnerable sector screening
  • Satisfactory references
