Job Description

About the OPTIONS Program
OPTIONS is dedicated to supporting individuals aged 18 to 60 who face challenges to employment. Through tailored preemployment and employment services the program fosters personal social and workrelated skill development helping participants build sustainable paths to employment.
Job Summary:
The Job Developer plays a crucial role in connecting participants with meaningful employment opportunities by building strong dynamic relationships with employers across diverse industries. This position is focused on cultivating partnerships with employers to secure work placements and paid employment ensuring participants have access to opportunities that match their skill set and employment goals. Responsible for engaging with employers understanding their needs and fostering positive relationships while acting as a liaison between the employer and participant to facilitate a smooth integration process.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Employer Relationship Building: Cultivate and maintain relationships with employers to secure work placements and paid employment opportunities for program participants. Meet with employers to provide information on our program and mission and guide them through the process of hosting a work placement. Offer ongoing support and followup to ensure the success of placements and address any issues that may arise. Obtain employment opportunities for multihire initiatives.
  • Job Matching & Placement: Identify suitable job opportunities that align with participants skills and employment goals. Facilitate the matching of participants to employers ensuring a successful fit for both parties. Attend and/or participate in job fairs etc.
  • Participant Facilitation & Support: Prepare and facilitate workshops on job search techniques and interview preparation. Support participants through strong advocacy and guidance as they transition into their work placement or employment. Ensure participants have the resources confidence and mentorship needed to succeed. Assist in developing natural supports within the workplace to ensure longterm success.
  • Communication & Collaboration: Work closely with Career Practitioners Work Option Facilitators and stakeholders to ensure coordinated efforts and effective participant support. Attend staff meetings and share regular progress updates. Attend Job Developer Meetings.
  • Documentation & Reporting: Maintain accurate and uptodate records of participant progress employer engagement and placement/employment details. Provide detailed evaluations and informal feedback to Career Practitioners and other relevant staff.
  • Program Adherence & Confidentiality: Ensure compliance with all program policies and confidentiality standards. Participate in regular performance evaluations and contribute to the continuous improvement of the program.
What Were Looking For:
  • Empathy and Sensitivity: Ability to demonstrate empathy and sensitivity to participants unique challenges and experiences. Understanding their individual journeys and providing thoughtful support tailored to their needs.
  • Organizational Skills: Strong organizational abilities and attention to detail to effectively manage multiple employer relationships participant progress and documentation requirements.
  • Adaptability & Accountability: Ability to thrive in a fastpaced dynamic environment. Must be adaptable to changing priorities and accountable for meeting deadlines and achieving outcomes.
  • Work Ethic & Teamwork: A strong work ethic and the ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment. Dedicated to both individual and collective success.
Qualifications:
  • Education & Experience: Certification as a Career Development Practitioner (NSCDA) and equivalent education and experience that demonstrates expertise in career development and employment services.
  • Labour Market Knowledge: Strong understanding of Nova Scotias labour market trends industries and growth sectors as well as an ability to use labour market information to identify job opportunities.
  • Employment Support Expertise: Solid knowledge of pre and postemployment support services including strategies for overcoming employment barriers and helping clients sustain longterm employment.
  • Job Matching & Client Advocacy: Ability to match participants skills to job requirements using a strengthsbased approach. Strong problemsolving and interpersonal skills to advocate for participants and employers.
  • Employer Engagement: Experience in building and maintaining relationships with employers with a focus on customer service and creating winwin partnerships.
  • Diversity & Inclusion: Deep understanding of diverse job seekers needs and challenges including the ability to work with individuals from a variety of backgrounds and with varying levels of work readiness.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written English communication skills with the ability to interact effectively with a range of stakeholders including employers participants and colleagues.
  • Technology Proficiency: Proficient in using technology for research communication and facilitating and recordkeeping.
  • Possess a valid drivers license a reliable vehicle and a clean driving record (MVA).
  • Criminal Record Check (including Vulnerable Sector Search) and Child Abuse Registry Check
