Position Summary
The primary purpose of the Industrial Hygiene Specialist is to serve as a field hygienist who oversees the Universitys drinking water testing program and the confined space program. This position will have the knowledge to ensure University policies as well as local state and federal regulations and guidelines training to drinking water and confined space are implemented on campus. This individual also performs safety inspections for campus shops as a member of the Hazards Management Program HMP team and services as an Emergency Response (ER) team member. This position will provide general IH support including investigations and monitoring as needed. Environment Health and Safety EHS has a comprehensive campuswide drinking water management program to ensure the health and safety of our students faculty and staff. This program is supplemental to the required regulatory testing conducted by the Orange Water and Sewer Authority OWASA the campus public works authority. The program includes routine testing of drinking water fixtures for lead and testing for other parameters per requests complaints or new regulations.
Required Qualifications Competencies And Experience
Must possess a valid drivers license and an acceptable driving record. Methods proper techniques equipment materials tools and standard practices for obtaining and testing water samples; identifying testing and correcting problems in water quality. Skill in communicating both verbally and in writing. Skill in organization. Skill in time management and setting priorities. Skill in technical writing. Skill in operating/calibrating/maintaining water quality analyzers and industrial hygiene instrumentation. Ability to maintain a database for tracking drinking water testing data. Ability to analyze and interpret analytical data. Able to identify problems and draw valid conclusions to solve problems. Ability to apply independent judgement initiative and interpersonal skills. Ability to handle special assignments and projects. Demonstrated organization and planning skills and ability to adapt to varying work situations and multiple tasks. Ability to interpret OSHA EPA and NC regulations with regards to drinking water and confined space.
Preferred Qualifications Competencies And Experience
Experience with plumbing systems and drinking water regulations is highly desirable. Preferred incumbent will have familiarity with OSHA confined space regulations
Work Schedule
Monday Friday Business Hours. Adverse Weather Emergency Duty and Communicable Disease Mandatory. Depending on business needs overtime and/or weekend work could be required.
